So after watching a Southeastern episode where Charlie Platt talked about the TV main event between Ron Fuller and Jimmy Golden being a "main event anywhere in the country" I thought it would be fun to come up with a territory wrestling bingo card. Something similar to this other wrestling themed bingo card:

 

Obviously "this is a main event anywhere in the country" goes on there. I'd also add "this is my time" for arguments when someone's interview is interrupted, "I'm gonna put him out of wrestling/rasslin for good" for your frequent injury threats and "greatest action anywhere in the country" which I've heard in some form or other from every territory I've watched. What else would you add to the territory wrestling bingo card?

"XXX is out with an injury" but he's really in Japan.

This might be kind of tough to express in bingo form, but the use of "area" or any number of other synonyms for "territory."

I get what you're saying as "here in the Southeastern area" is very frequently said by ol' Charlie Platt. Probably "here in the ____ area/region" would work.

I'm not sure how wide spread it was but "lies about Madison Square Garden" seems like it might fit. God knows they used to LOVE lying about MSG in Portland with them hyping up Stan Stasiak as someone who was in tons of main events there and almost never got defeated.

 

Just saw a promo from Continental on youtube with Ron Fuller hyping up a tag match with him teaming up with Ric Flair and talking about all the arenas all over the world they had teamed in and throwing in Madison Square Garden when I'm 99% sure neither of them had ever worked the Garden in 1985 much less teamed together there.

I'm intrigued by the team bullshitting, but oddly enough, they both did work MSG early in their careers. Vince Sr. brought in guys from all over the place in the WWWF days, especially young guys for one-shots. Flair's one and only MSG match before his WWF run is on his first DVD set. It's from just after the plane crash comeback.

Gotta add "We're outta time, we gotta go..." while a HOT main event feud match is in the ring and the face is close to winning... or a variation of this adds the "We gotta go, then the ref counts 1, 2,.....black.."

I knew about the Sr. bringing in young guys a lot but I was almost sure Ron Fuller had never worked North of the Mason-Dixon line and thought Flair's first MSG match was the one with Piper. Still fits into the trope of lies about MSG though as they didn't team up there.

That's a good one Smack.

 

There has to be one with the announcer(s) talking about how resilient whatever wrestler taking punishment currently is, superhuman almost, way above what we can expect even from an average wrestler. Even if they say that about 2/3 of the wrestlers in said promotion at the time.

- Says something overly wordy/illogical about a contract

- Returning babyface chases heel(s) out of building with a weapon then cuts a fired up promo
- "Jack"

- "Baby"

- Reference to someone as "bad"

- Baseball bat as equalizer

- A bandaged forehead

- Wrestler narration of arena footage

- Single fan in studio laughs audibly at something not intended to be funny

- Misspelled name in graphic

- That One Granny that sits in the front row at every show and wants to hit heels with her purse

 

I feel like every territory had one of these.

The face plants a big wet one on the heel's lady. Also, shenanigans and/or physical attack on the heel's lady is justified because "she don't act like no lady."

Watching 1985 Crockett the other night one of the most overused phrases in promos was "I'll tell ya this" or "I'll just say this one thing"

- "Jack"

- "Baby"

- "Daddy"

 

Wrestlers always came back from a "succesful tour of Japan", even the guys who were the designated jobbers in the annual tag tournaments.

A wrestler saying that he's in the territory because it has got the toughest competition around.

This is definitely a good one and it also reminded me of "most exciting hour in all of professional wrestling" because I've been using both those tropes in my Southwest fantasy writing.
