I have been watching the 6/27/77 MSG on the Network, inspired by this thread. Superstar/Bruno is far from a technical wonder, but Bruno carries him to lots of fun times. Also, Andre/Strongbow vs Volkoff/Patera is terrific.

While I enjoyed most of that show, Putski/Raschke was painful. Putski gets on the mic and wants five more minutes. Dear lord, you had 30 minutes and didn't do shit.

The Graham vs Dusty bullrope match from Philly is quality. One of those matches where Dusty carries things with his charisma.

But yes, WWWF wrestling was kind of terrible for the most part. The Backlund era changes things because of his style and opponents, plus the addition of the IC title and better tag teams much of the time.

The Patterson-Backlund MSG cage match is very good with some very convincing near escapes. The ending is clunkier than what Backlund remembers in his book, but still effective.I find all of the stuff from the 1984 St. Louis tapings to be super heated and lots of fun. WWF for sure though.

Patterson vs Bob from 7/30/79 MSG is the real money match of that series. Anyone interested in this era should track that one down

Just watched Backlund/Valentine from March '79 that OldSkool uploaded. Add that match to this list.

If that's the same match I'm thinking of, which I have as 2/19/79, I wasn't impressed. Way too much stalling and selling of exhaustion where it wasn't appropriate.

The match I watched is dated 3/26/79. Vince on commentary mentioned that they had gone 60 minutes the previous month. Based on your comments, that may have been the match from February 19.
