Jim Cornette, wrestling renaissance man and author of Tuesday Night at the Gardens, rejoins David Bixenspan and The Great Brian Last for another edition of 6:05, the Superpodcast, covering a ton of old-school wrestling topics including:

  • The Poffos’ ICW and seeing Randy Savage when he was the undiscovered best wrestler in the world…plus Jim confirms an urban legend about Savage. No, not that one.
  • Personal memories of Eddie Gilbert from the ’70s through just before Eddie’s passing in 1995.
  • The amazing video of various 1984 WWF personalities pleading with a judge to be lenient to the Iron Sheik andthe book that tells the story.
  • STAN LANE’S WIG.
  • How Dennis Coraluzzo and Kenny Bolin became fast friends.

And much, MUCH more, including Jim watching/doing commentary on the video of Rock ‘n’ Roll Roy Toy, which we’ve synced up to the match.

When I started watching Memphis back in 81, I thought it was the only wrestling around. My brother would watch occasionally and one day said, "You know there's more wrestling on. There's some show called ICW. They kidnapped some wrestler named Pez Whatley and put a bra and mop on him. There's two awesome wrestlers named Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo to."

Of course I had to start watching. So I got to see a lot of pre Memphis Randy Savage and you could tell he was a star. I still remember George Weingeroff coming on and apologizing for Dundee being injured by Savage.

Definitely looking forward to hearing Cornette talk about it

NWA @ Boston, MA - Boston Garden - July 8, 1989 (4,800)
Terry Gordy, NWA Tag Team Champions Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin defeated Steve Williams, Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane; after the match, the Freebirds attacked Eaton & Lane until Williams cleared the ring with a wooden chair and hit Garven with it half a dozen times

There's no one better to just sit and listen to talk about old school wrestling than Cornette.

I don't know if he could drop the schtick for an interview, but I'd love to hear Bolin talk about his young days around Cornette, taping wrestling, trying to find different wrestling.

Great shout on Bolin. Don't think I've ever heard or seen anything with him when he is not in full on gimmick mode.

Haven't listened to all of this yet, but as per your previous episode with him, so good to hear Cornette in this environment just talking old wrestling and especially liking the talk on ICW.
