Posted February 16, 20169 yr comment_5727361 Now this is a show that could cause trouble for the Indys, Mexico, Japan, and the British promotions.
February 16, 20169 yr comment_5727377 I don't really think so. It's WWE, so even though it's a Network exclusive in front of the Full Sail crowd something tells me that the matches they showcase won't be able to really put PWG, Chikara, Progress, or any other cruiser-filled roster in too much trouble. You're going to see much crazier high spots in Reseda, more grit in London, etc. Ultimately, it might hurt ROH, but that's more ROH's fault as a company than it is WWE's as a competitor. I think the real goal is to counter any possible advancement into the US that AAA/NJPW might be trying to make. I'm definitely interested in seeing the talent they use and the shows when they air, though. This is the kind of thing that shows Hunter "gets" the audience that shits all over the main shows but still watch.
February 16, 20169 yr comment_5727384 So this is actually a thing? Wow. This has been rumoured for like ten years, to the point of hiring people "for the new cruiserweight show" and nothing has ever materialised. What a world we live in.
February 16, 20169 yr comment_5727387 I'm interested if they go after some of the Lucha Underground people just because they can.
February 16, 20169 yr comment_5727389 Looks like it's gonna be a 32-man tournament rather than a cruiser-themed promotion.
February 16, 20169 yr comment_5727392 I'm interested if they go after some of the Lucha Underground people just because they can. They already meet up with them over Ricochet, but nothing materialized or so I read online. I also read this was planned to get Manny Andrade aka La Sombra over.
February 17, 20169 yr comment_5727394 Whats the weight limit going to be? What was a cruiserweight 20 years ago is the average size for guys in WWE/NXT right now.

February 17, 20169 yr comment_5727447 With The Network, WWE can really position itself as the one stop shop for all pro wrestling without buying up the promotions and slapping a WWE logo on them. You want Sports Entertainment? WWE's got you covered with Raw and Smackdown. You want Indie style wrestling with straight forward angles with people you care about? WWE has NXT? Now, you want to see people do stupid shit and break their necks? WWE now has a CW show coming to The Network. What a time to be alive. I'm surprised with the amount of women WWE has hired that they haven't tried to branch off a women's show of some sort. In all reality, I think pro wrestling works best with all of these guys and girls together vs. separately. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out as NXT has set the bar pretty damn high. With HHH at the wheel, it should be a fun ride.
February 18, 20169 yr comment_5727646 Guys who could be in this: Kalisto Neville Austin Aries Finn Balor Sami Zayn Tye Dillinger Biff Busick La Sombra Rich Swann Those are the main guys under contract I can see that would fit the tournament. That's a lot of outside guys coming in to fill 32 slots.
February 18, 20169 yr comment_5727664 Well... Dillinger's knee injury makes him questionable, but Itami will be back by then either way. Gable's sub-205. So are Enzo & Xavier, though they seem less likely to be in it. I think that Breeze is only a pound or two over and can easily be a kayfabe 205. Kendrick's apparently rumored as wanting to work in it; don't know about Jacobs, but if he's going to wrestle for WWE, this is a perfect opportunity to use him. So that's a decent amount of contract guys. And then there's no real point in not counting Gargano and Hollis/Skyler as non-regulars.
February 18, 20169 yr comment_5727665 I think they have bigger plans for Balor and Zayn than this. The fact people are speculating this project is a vehicle to push La Sombra cements this belief. As talented as he might be, if it was a choice between Balor or Zayn vs La Sombra, I don't see any way how the WWE picks La Sombra over those two.

February 18, 20169 yr comment_5727681 Imagine Hunter attempting corkscrew moonsaults against Ricochet or working the mat against Zack Sabre Jr.
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727719 The Breeze kid is like 180 and Dillenger doesn't work like a Cruiser. 205 is a weird number anyway. Why not 200 or 220 - those are the numbers you try and get up to in the gym
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727746 205 is a weird number anyway. Why not 200 or 220 - those are the numbers you try and get up to in the gym I could be wrong but I suspect it's because the UFC weight limit for Light Heavyweights is 205

Yeah, there's a good chance most of these guys won't be in it as HHH has expressed he's looking to get some guys from around the world and indies to participate in this. This isn't an NXT thing either, so they may keep Andrade off TV until this thing rolls around so they can push him in it.
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727815 Rumor has it HHH is down to 215 already! A lot of guys working their way into this tournament
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727819 We're like twenty-two posts into this and no one's said it yet, so why not: I expect it this to be really awesome. The one major thing that the network and company-at-large is lacking right now boils down to "fun" event-type programming, esp. something that breaks the confines of repetitive, hastily thrown together RAW-style PPVs. It's why I was a massive fan of their July 4th show in Japan. Done right this could really take on the spectacle of stuff like Battlebowl, or a much better worked version of WM4/The Wrestling Classic/early King of the Ring/etc.
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727823 32 wrestlers. 16+8+4+2+1 = 31 matches 10 shows 3.1 matches per show That is a lot of time for the matches to be fleshed out and not throw away.
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727825 Presumably there'll be some tags and what not too, no? 3 matches a show is about right for an hour. Adding tags would dilute things too much. Maybe if they do a two hour finale special with the semis and finals then throw on some tags?
