I don't watch Chikara so I didn't see Lince there but I've seen him a handful of times on indie shows the past 2 years here in Orlando. He's a movez guy for sure but I don't think he's that bad. Usually does comedy matches. He looked generally excited on Friday night when he announced he was going to be in the GCS.

I will admit I have not seen Lince see he left Chikara several years back. However, during his time there he was constantly blowing spots and would continue to try those same spots match after match, blowing them every time. I can understand trying a new move and fucking it up, but when you constantly blow your signature moves, its a problem. I also felt his push didn't match his skill level, but that is no fault of his own, it just adds to my dislike.

After looking at where all these guys are from I'm wondering why WWE changed the name from Global Cruiserweight Series to Cruiserweight Classic as it truly is a Global tournament. I also am surprised Andrade wasn't in this as well as Kalisto and/or Sin Cara since neither are doing anything on the main roster.

I think part of it had to do with the logo they came up with,

CruiserweightClassicLogo440x262.jpg

and to make sure no one was confused thinking this had anything to do with Global Force Wrestling. :)

Holy shit, XL (Alejandro Saez) is gonna be a part of this???? Haven't seen him wrestle in years so I have no clue if he has improved, but he was considered one of the best wrestlers from Chile. I'm really happy he's getting an opportunity, hopefully he makes the most out of it.

This fascinates me because it doesn't appear there's a single contracted WWE guy in this thing. Which makes me wonder what they're hoping to accomplish with it. Is it to see if cruiserweight action can support its own show (in which case this serves as a scouting mission as well) or are they trying to see if non-traditional WWE product will fly on The Network. NXT has been a success, but it's still clearly part of the "WWE Universe". I wonder if they're looking to bring in completely outside stuff as a way to augment their stuff. Yeah, they have the archives they own, but that's all past stuff. The one thing they haven't tried yet is non-WWE current product. Almost feels like this is a test for that. "Will people watch something new that's not part of our normal style/booking structure?".

comment_5757039

Well, technically, Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa are signed, just to non-exclusive deals. But I'm definitely convinced that they're gonna look at this tournament to find new guys to replenish the NXT roster with the upcoming draft that will raid that roster.

Personally, I'm psyched that Cedric Alexander is in this tournament and I hope he goes far in it. I'm also hoping to see good showings from Tajiri & Brian Kendrick, even though I'm expecting them to be used to put over some of those guys. I'm wondering if they'll be tempted to book Tajiri vs Ibushi or Tozawa early in the tournament.

But for me, Zack Sabre Jr is the favorite to win it, no doubt in my mind.

I assume quite a few will be signed, but this also seems to be part of the new WWE PR wing (and to an extent the evolution of the product as a whole) that is reaching out to the indy-wrestling world and the internet fan. With unlimited (more or less) space to produce and screen new wrestling on the network, even if they didn't sign a single wrestler, putting something like this on the network and under the WWE banner is still beneficial. Plus, worst case scenario it is a bit, well publicized tryout and anyone who gets over and performs well could wind up with a contract eventually.
