Posted February 18, 20169 yr comment_5727600 Confessions first, being born in 1979 in MA I never was able to watch Memphis Wrestling as a kid. I thought Jerry Lawler was a joke to be honest until I bought the Wrestling Gold set and learned otherwise. Anyway I have recently acquired about 200 episodes of Memphis TV (the Evansville show usually) from 78-84, the years that most fascinate and interest me. I was thinking of doing a podcast looking at 4 or so episodes a month. The idea would be to have a Memphis expert team up with me, a total newbie to Memphis week in and week out, and look at those years as they developed. I think the idea of having someone raised WWF style working with an expert might have a strange appeal. Anyone else see this as an idea with legs for the PTBN as a pitch? Anyone here interested in such a project? If there is one already set up I apologize for intruding. Thanks
February 18, 20169 yr comment_5727602 If I had the time I'd totally be up for it because I love Memphis from that era. Great idea for a pod
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727726 I've watched Memphis since 81 with the second Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl; went to probably 75% of the cards at the Louisville Gardens from 8/3/82 until the end of 96. I can help you with any perspective
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727727 Once Jimmy Hart took the lead, until he left was really the "glory days" which was 80-84
February 19, 20169 yr Author comment_5727737 My plan was to review only full shows, and I think the first complete one is 11/11/78. I've got 13 as well from 1979 so the first 4 episodes would cover that. I just need a co-host, preferably someone who knows how to set all this up and works with the PTBN.
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727798 Ugh, I forget the show as it was years ago that I heard it, I don't think it was a PWO/VOW affiliated show, it may have been Wrestlespective, but I swear there was a book called Memphis Heat, or something like that, where the author chronicled the history of the Memphis Arena shows. Unfortunately a wrestling book called "Memphis Heat" is not showing up in an Amazon search (neither physical nor Kindle editions). LOL, sorry I can't help, but do some digging to find this guy and see if he'd be willing to co-host. Or maybe shoot Will a line as it might be a good rejuvenation of Will's wrestling enthusiasm these days =
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727799 A little Google-Fu, I think this is what I was talking about: http://prowrestlingradio.com/memphis-wrestling/
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727804 "Memphis Heat" is actually a really, really awesome documentary on Memphis wrestling that everyone should check out
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727811 Mark James is definitely the guy's name. Book I was thinking of was Memphis Wrestling History Presents: 1982. http://www.amazon.com/Memphis-Wrestling-History-Presents-1982/dp/145368512X
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727832 Mark has several good books. His 1977 Memphis book, which looks at when Jarrett breaks off from Gulas is great A couple other great historians are Tim Dills and Scott Bowden
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727834 Memphis Heat is such a fantastic doc, one of my favourites. Podcast is a great idea, and must be called "Walking in Memphis".
February 19, 20169 yr comment_5727843 Having the newcomer to the product being the driving force of the show is actually a unique dynamic for a podcast I'd definitely listen even if I'm not a huge Memphis fan myself
February 22, 20169 yr comment_5728312 I'm currently working my way through the Memphis set right now, I'd absolutely love to hear a Memphis podcast!
February 22, 20169 yr Author comment_5728382 The good news is I have found (I THINK) a co-host for this idea. More of a Memphis expert, so the idea of someone old and someone new stays intact
February 22, 20169 yr comment_5728415 I have podcast equipment but no gimmick yet. Would love to join, but unfortunately I know jack shit about Memphis.
March 16, 20169 yr comment_5733782 I think Beau from Between the Sheets Episode #33 would be a great addition/part time analyst if he has time to do this and if this podcast is still happening.
