Posted December 16, 200519 yr comment_4146136 I don't know how successful this'll be. I was trying to think of a way to get new music other than just another "tell me some songs to get" thread. So, what I was thinking of is this: List a couple of bands that you like. Then, based on how they're similar, we can try to recommend some bands that are kinda close to the same kind of music. EXAMPLE: Stone Temple Pilots Pearl Jam Coldplay Nirvana David Bowie Recommend: Screaming Trees Athlete Spiderbait Days of the New Kinda like that.
December 18, 200519 yr comment_4155598 I made a post about them a while back that fits this, but anyone who's into the latest pseudo-new wave revival should check out THE FAINT. I've heard lots of tracks and have yet to hear a bad one. They're a lot more upbeat and true to form than a lot of other bands that try to create that same carefree 80s sound. Also, anyone who likes My Bloody Valentine should check out Slowdive.
December 18, 200519 yr comment_4157411 Also, anyone who likes My Bloody Valentine should check out Slowdive. Yup. Souvlaki's a great album. Actually, if people are into MBV, they should check out: Cocteau Twins - their early stuff, like Treasure, is a definite precursor to the MBV sound. Lift To Experience - a similar blend of beauty with clouds of sound, this is ostensibly gentler, but a more fulfilling and dynamic experience than Loveless for me. Mogwai - albums like Come On Die Young use the MBV feathering of noise over indie sounds. Also the 'My Father My King' single and of course the Kevin Shields remix of 'Mogwai Fear Satan'. Xinlisupreme - a more extreme Japanese take on the sound. Like MBV, there are basic, gorgeous songs there somewhere, but drenched in more Merzbow-influenced modern Noise. 'All You Need Is Love Was Not True' is essential. Serena Maneesh - came out this year, they stick more closely to the MBV template, lending it an authentic, if derivative, feel. Good stuff though.
