Out of guys not making your ballot, who would have the best 10 match or so greatest hits album, maybe not a guy with a long great career but some huge highs.

Couple of guys I was thinking of.

Steve Corino

A lot of his career he was coasting on shtick, but if you look at his top matches you have some truly awesome stuff. His pair of Homicide matches in ROH (Better friends, stiffer enemies is maybe my favorite ROH match ever), the incredible Hashimoto/Corino/Knight/Steele 4-way, Tajiri ECW match. I just am not sure I can rate a guy with 8 or so classics and so much chaff

Mil Muertes

After last nights match, we are looking at four Lucha Underground classics and those pair of awesome LA Park brawls, that is a pretty high end. Not really sure what else is out there though.

Kengo Kimura and Killer Khan

Both were in some awesome stuff on the New Japan set. Khan was in some awesome stuff in other 80s sets as well. But outside of this, they seem to phone it in a lot. If you the rest of their work compared at all then both guys would have easily made my list.

I'm sure Ultimate Warrior has had at least ten very-good-to-great matches in his career, even though the hideous lowness of his lows certainly precluded him from being on my list. Inoki also comes to mind as a "lame on most days, but GREAT on rare occasions" type of performer.

Killer Khan is someone I almost feel bad about not voting for because of his round-the-loop best of the 80's sets stuff. The match with Choshu alone is just amazing. But I just haven't seen much of anything else beyond that to justify having him there.

Inoki is also a good pick. Guy that if you just show people his best work he looks fantastic but I've seen way too much of his other stuff.

I didn't vote for The Undertaker but he's a pretty easy nominee for this as well.

Sgt. Slaughter is more like Queen, his greatest hits stretch over two discs and some of his album stuff is under-the-radar good.

I feel like Kerry von Erich might be an interesting pick for this, his single-disc greatest hits would be packed with the highest quality. In a world where Slaughter is Queen, I'd compare him to Squeeze. And if you haven't, check out Squeeze's greatest hits, cos they are one of the great "singles" acts that don't really get talked about.

I said this in another thread recently, and I'm sure it sounds insane to some people but honestly, for me it's Shelton Benjamin.

He has four matches that I'd put in my Top 100 without even blinking. I'm pretty sure I can't say that about anyone else I'm not voting for.

Could you name them, Jimmy?

The HBK one jumps out - unsure of the others.

I second this, when I was like 16 or 17 I found an old LP of squeeze's greatest hits that my mam had and it was just so awesome. If you aren't gonna check out the full best of at least listen to Up The Junction.

Anyway as far as best single disc greatest hits collection of wrestlers not making my ballot, probably Roderick Strong or Toshiyo Yamada or if Austin Aries ends up not making the cut it'd be him.

The Shawn one is my least favourite of the four actually. I said without blinking, but that's the one I'd blink at, but only because I haven't seen it in ages. If I rewatched it and it was fresh in my mind I feel like I'd say yes. That finish goes a long way with me.

The others:

vs Hunter - Raw 29.3.04

Money in the Bank 1 - WM21

vs Viscera - New Year's Revolution 2006

I'm cheating on my GWE list by thinking about my Top 100 matches list. Procrastination 101.

Most of the guys mentioned- HBK, Yamamoto, Slaughter, Kerry, Undertaker are somewhere in the bottom half of my list. For me it would probably be AJ Styles. He didn't make my list but his NJPW run was incredible. There were also a few very good ones to great in TNA and ROH.

'vs Viscera - New Year's Revolution 2006'

Huh? You'll have to work your magic with me on that one Jimmy.

Well I mean I'm being a bit coy here because the match has absolutely nothing to do with Shelton and he could have been replaced with a robot and nothing would have changed. But his name is on the match so he gets the credit I guess.

I feel like I have a longer post on this in the future, but the short answer is that this was Shelton's Momma's PPV debut and it's the funniest match I've ever seen.

You're a quirky one, Jimmy....

This is why I can't participate in any kind of HOF for matches or Greatest Matches Ever type project. My best matches are my favourite matches, I can't even pretend to objectivity so when I start rating Shelton vs Viscera and Divas matches over Flair vs Steamboat and the like I'll screw the whole thing up and get run out of town.
