I guess a bunch of self-conscious Mania epics plus a bunch of truly awful matches were enough to boost Taker into the top 100. Blah.

You're not really a minority voice if he makes less than half of the ballots. I don't know too many people who had him in thier lists. I know of a couple.

 

An interesting comparison would be Undertaker vs. Inoki. A shitload of matches.... a shitload of main event protection.... a handful of classics and a ton of crap.

 

 

That's actually a great comparison, and Inoki was clearly better.

Taker is much better than Hogan though.

Depends what era. 1982-1987 Hogan is a much better straight run than Taker has ever had.

Undertaker at least has some memorable and "so bad it's good" wrestlecrap. I'd take him over Angle whose lows are just "holy shit how many finisher kickouts are you going to do in this match??"

Well yeah, absolutely. I don't think there's been anyone in 200 picks or so I wouldn't take over Angle, including HHH.

Hey, good showing for Piper. Anyone who knocks him can't do so without seeing his Portland run. But that's not the entirety of his case.

Undertaker is a joke? All wrestlers have some crap. Sometimes it was what they were dealt and other times it's on them. One thing I always liked about him is his great character work during those early days. Sure the matches suck for the most part, but he works the gimmick they wanted him to and gets it over.

 

Is he consistent? No not at all. We're also talking about a pretty big guy in terms of stature. Not always easy to do when your that big. When he was motivated and in the right setting he was able to put together some great matches. He deserves to be on the list. 84 is about right.

Piper lower than Hogan?

Also, I am happy to say that i still have 66 soldiers remaining in the final 82 and two guys I didn't vote for (Breaks and Rose), I almost guarantee will be high on my list in the future.

Piper is a favourite of mine that I just couldn't justify including on my list. The guy at his best incarnates pro wrestling. His Portland stuff is blowaway great too. Happy he finished ahead of all the "name" guys from 89-84.

The only thing Angle factors in about fans is that they pop when someone does a 2.9 finisher kick-out and thus spent nearly 10 years of his career trying to do that in every single match.

Angle is better than HHH because he has more base skills and tools, he just doesn't know how to use them. But he can do more.

 

Angle is better than Taker because Taker is a stiff.
