Flair vs Eddie Gilbert

I thought That Gilbert was a great babyface here. He starts off controlling with a headlock and working spots around them. He could have done more with the headlock. Flair is good working underneath making the headlock work. Flair beats down Gilbert and Gilbert is here with his fight. We build to a finish and we have a great t.v match.

Mike Rotundo vs Rick Steiner

Solid enough, but not a nom.

Eddie Gilbert /Steamboat vs Flair/Windham

This is a classic match of the 80's. This is Steamboat's return to the NWA and the goal was for him to look like a million bucks, and he did. We'd have to be insane not to include this. We must include the build and postmatch interviews. Best of NWA TV 1989 Disc 1.

Mike Rotundo vs Sting 4/1/89

Loss 1st brought this to my attention. This is for the TV belt, and a 10,000 dollar challenge. This has a big time feel to it. Having the Varsity Club and Steamboat and Luger out there raised the stakes. Sting using the headlock and working spots around was really smart. Throughout the years these guys had a weird chemistry and would say Sting is a top 5 opponent for Rotundo. This is a solid nomination.

Going with stuff I haven't seen.

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert (1/2/89)

Gilbert really works the headlock early on keeping Flair grounded which was interesting since most Flair matches start off with a faster pace. It picks up when Flair starts making it a fight and Gilbert comes firing back both in and out of the ring and the crowd goes nuts. Flair would get the win on a reverse rollup when Dillon shoved Gilbert back. This was fun but we only got 11 minutes out of a 25 minute match so I'm going to go no on a nomination.

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair & Barry Windham vs. "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert & "Total Pacakge" Lex Luger (3/13/89)

The Gilbert & Flair exchange early on was very fun and I loved how Gilbert was portrayed as being able to hang with the big dogs at this time. Luger comes in and he was fired up working against his big rivals Flair & Windham and the fans were eating all of this up. The faces were very dominant until Luger got caught by the heels and they worked him over pretty good which was a surprise since you would think Gilbert would've worked FIP. Gilbert got the hot tag and he came in hot even getting the Hot Shot on Windham but Hiro Matsuda put Windham's foot on the rope. Gilbert would then get an O'Connor Roll on Flair but ate a Lariat from Windham with Flair covering for the pin. This was a very fun match and I'll pass it on as a nomination.
