More than a Politics-N-Wrestling folder, I see this primarily as a wonk folder where we keep ourselves open to everything if we really want to do a deep dive. However, I was chatting with someone who saw it primarily as a safe spot to discuss how how sociopolitical issues intersect with pro wrestling.

So how do you see it? This is brand new, so I figured we can define it and flesh that out together. This came up because I'd like to move the criteria topics from GWE here so they can be bumped, since eventually GWE will become a read-only archive. However, if this is meant to be more about pro wrestling as it relates to sociopolitical issues, that's not really as clear a fit.

So I'm throwing it to the group so we can iron that out together.

I think it would be good if this area was for broader discussions than just politics, a sort of space for wrestling critical theory, exploring wrestling from a number of angles.

Wrestling writing has on the whole been restricted to match reviews, news and straight historical pieces. I think it would be fun to explore new modes of writing and new ways to analyse wrestling.

Fourthing.

I might be good to move all the old more meta-critical stuff and discussions of aesthetics etc. here too. You know, "is a cloud art?" and that sort of thing.

Yeah, agree with this. Some of the stuff in the GWE posts was absolutely representative of the kind of stuff we can discuss further here, so I see no reason not to bring it over.

Clouds are definitely art if you've sat in a park wapped out on acid drinking cider all day, that's my considered ideological position on this.

I don't think the idea of a 'safe space' contributes to discussion really. There really isn't much scope for 'triggering' here, otherwise people wouldn't watch such a regularly distasteful and offensive industry in the first place.

This is primarily a very liberal and progressive forum, especially in comparison to the product itself and the rest of the IWC, I think tagging on the 'safe space' moniker can be anti debate.

I agree having this as a "safe space" is counterproductive if the idea is to experiment with different ways of looking at wrestling. There are right wing leaning members (such as myself) who would feel alienated if it was all progressive liberal talk.

Lets try to not use the closed minded tact of over politicizing words. As in "safe space" means exactly what it means and not what it has come to denoted based on different political posturing. Thus this folder is a space that is safe for any views no matter what way they lean as in it's just as safe for right wingers as it is for left. That being said I agree with the over all sentiment that this folder should be open to bigger picture stuff in general.

In fact myself as a pretty ardent socialist would love it if someone was to make a topic about more a Austrian economic school view of the recent Ryback pay scale rant. Seems like there would be a lot of room to argue that if he has an issue with his pay he could let the free market decide what he is actually worth but, with WWE as a defacto monopoly on America wrestling is there such a thing?

Anyway lets say this is folder for people who feel they are mentally strong enough to read others espousing ideals and concepts they do not agree with, and debate back thoughtfully with out being trigger into using dismissive and judgmental tones.
