March 27, 20178 yr comment_5793506 NWA Superbouts 2/20/88"Hands of Stone" Ronnie Garvin vs. Gene Ligon (1/15/88)Your standard fun Garvin squash.Next is a Paul Jones Army promo.US Heavyweight Title: "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes © vs. "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton (1/26/88)Eaton is great here bumping like a madman for Dusty who was always great against the Memphis style heels. Dusty is in full flip flop and fly mode and the crowd is losing their shit. Corny would have to distract Tommy Young allowing Eaton to use the tennis racket for him to get the advantage and when he did Eaton was relentless on the attack especially on Dusty's left knee. Dusty would hit a fucking insane looking DDT on the floor as a hope spot with him falling forward with Bobby as he was selling his knee giving out and Bobby hit all floor. Bobby to his credit though got right back up and kept going and it would turn into a slugfest ending up with Corny throwing some knux in the ring but Dusty would get them and used them to KO Bobby for the win. Corny told Tommy Young about this and he saw it before reversing the decision. Very fun sprint and I'll throw it on the block.Luger is out for a promo next about the next match.Western States Heritage Title: Barry Windham © vs. Tully Blanchard (1/15/88)Ross on commentary here is already dropping hints about how the Horsemen want Windham to be their newest member so the wheels are already turning. The action here is very good but this is heavily clipped as we get like half the match. They also go to instant replay here at the announce table as Dillon rings the bell and they tell Tommy Young about it then show him on the monitor which is a cool touch and Dillon wanted the bell rung as Tully was getting pinned so he was trying to win over Windham. This ends up in a wild brawl with Ric & Arn coming out. They want Windham to help them but he helps Luger and a fan shows up trying to get involved so they take care of him too. Sting runs out to help clear the ring as well. This is a wild finish but like I said the match is cut in half.NWA Superbouts 3/5/88Cornette and the MX came out to start the show talking about Bobby clearly beating Dusty on TV and he is the rightful US Champion. Cornette talking about how the MX was hanging at The Cheetah III the night before and that popped me hard. Extra material. (2/10/88)"The Enforcer" Arn Anderson vs. John Savage (2/10/88)Arn looks awesome here hitting all his big moves to win and along with Dillon, they cut a promo after the match talking about how they are dominating everyone.Magnum interviews Dusty about the Roadies being injured and Zbyszko/Baby Doll.Handicap Match: Road Warrior Hawk vs. Keith Steinborn & Ryan Wagner (2/10/88)Hawk destroys these two guys and then along with Ellering cut a promo on the Powers of Pain afterwards.Sting vs. Bob Riddle (2/10/88)Sting now has his true early theme music here and he squashes Riddle easily. Sting then asks for Flair after the match demanding he come out but he doesn't.Flair & Dillon are out next for a retort to what Luger said and Flair gives Jim Ross props for actually acknowledging how good the Horsemen are. Flair then goes off on Luger & Sting which was great. Extra material.Shane Douglas vs. George South (2/10/88)Douglas is back in the NWA and the women love him although he is sloppy in spots.Steel Cage Match for the US Heavyweight Title: "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes © vs. "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton (2/13/88)This was a pretty boring cage match especially in Philadelphia where the crowd was waiting on the action to get going. Sal Corrente being the referee for this was great. Eaton gets some offense in and has Dusty in trouble but this never kicked up that extra gear and Dusty wins with the Bionic Elbow off the top rope.
