Posted May 28, 20169 yr comment_5754986 Steel Cage Battle Royal (June 1988)This was a spectacle no doubt as you had to eliminate guys by throwing them out the door. Lots of blood here and guys just randomly beating the hell out of guys especially Miguel Perez Jr. who was like the Tazmanian Devil running around. The last 4 men left here were Jaggers, Miguel, Kendo Nagasaki, & TNT then Jaggers dumped Miguel. TNT would then dump Jaggers & Kendo to win. Fans were running around the cage celebrating when this was over. This was 7 minutes of chaos and I think it needs to be on the somehow someway...I don't know as a match or what but this was awesome.Caribbean Tag Titles: The Kansas Jayhawks (Bobby Jaggers & Dan Kroffat) © vs. Huracan Castillo Jr. & Victor Jovica (6/18/88)Castillo & Jovica are subbing for The Rock n Roll Express who didn't make the show. The Jayhawks bump early and often here especially Kroffat as they make the babyfaces look strong. Huracan would fall to the Jayhawks though and Jaggers would drop him neck first on the railing outside the ring then Kroffat would catch him with a big running knee smash in the ring. Kroffat & Jaggers then took turns pounding on Castillo with Kroffat hitting a big splash off the top rope for a nearfall. Castillo would tag Jovica in and he started taking it to the heels before we got a 4-way brawl seeing Jovica get a sleeper hold on Jaggers with Kroffat coming off the top on Jaggers by mistake. Jovica would go for an O'Connor Roll though and Kroffat would drop him neck first on the top rope to win. Okay match nothing special. Then we get a promo from the Jayhawks afterwards.Barbed Wire Match: The Invader vs. Ron Starr (6/18/88)They struggle to see who the first one that gets in the wire would be and Starr won that battle as he put Invader in it and the blood soon flowed. Invader soon recovered and put Starr in the wire as his blood started flowing. This is becoming a war of attrition and both men are just destroying each other with all kinds of hard hitting shots. Invader would get an O'Connor Roll on Starr into the wire to win the match. This was a total war and a definite nomination.WWC Tag Titles: The Renegade Warriors (Mark & Chris Youngblood) © vs. Chicky Starr & Ron Starr (June 1988)This is from a TV taping and the Youngbloods start out strong as they stifle the heels in every way plus it helps that Chicky & Ron are so good at working this chickenshit style. THe heels would get the heat on Mark and they did a good job here of controlling him especially Ron who was simple but effective on offense. Mark had some good hope spots and got the hot tag to Chris who ran wild on the heels before Mark could join in for the 4-way brawl. Ron ate a big double dropkick then Chris did his springboard splash into the ring but as Ron tried to drop a knee off the top rope he hit Chicky. Chris then suplexed Chicky into the ring but Ron pulled his foot and the heels won the titles or so it seemed. The Invader ran out and told the referee what happened and he reversed the decision bringing out the heels who threw a big tantrum in the ring. This was a really fun Southern tag match and a fairly easy nomination.Universal Heavyweight Title: Carlos Colon © vs. "Dangerous" Danny Spivey (June 1988)These two guys have a slugfest immediately and Colon takes it to Spivey before finally getting him down to work over his left leg. Colon is a total buzzsaw here taking the fight to Spivey until Spivey dropped him neck first on the top rope. Spivey then used a football spear on Colon to really take him down before choking him. Spivey locked on a bearhug before both men would clothesline each other hard. Spivey recovered first and went back to working over Colon getting a Boston Crab but Colon would fight out of the hold and then took over beating on Spivey sending the match outside the ring where they started brawling around the stadium with Colon beating Spivey bloody. Colon then started throwing the referee around and the referee gave up and called the match a DDQ as the two men wouldn't quit fighting. This was a helluva battle and I'm going to throw it up as a low-end nomination. Then we get TNT vs. Super Black Ninja which I've seen already.Chicky Starr vs. Mike Jackson (June 1988)HOLY SHIT THIS MATCH. Mike Jackson pumping the fans up is great. Jackson works over Chicky on the mat early on focusing on his left arm. Jackson is pesky as hell working the armbar as Chicky tries to get free on numerous occasions. Chicky finally gets control and beats on Jackson a little bit but Mike comes fighting back until Chicky takes him down and hits a big splash to win. I think this match is cool as hell even though it isn't real dynamic and I'm throwing it on the block as a nomination.Tiger Jackson vs. The Leprechaun (June 1988)Tiger Jackson is all about his dancing while Leprechaun was pretty decent at selling and bumping.Mr. Pogo vs. El Solitario (June 1988)This is JIP.Boxing Match: Huracan Castillo Jr. vs. El Profe (June 1988)This is from a TV taping and Profe's bumps here for Castillo are great. Profe gets pissed off and starts using wrestling moves to get Castillo down but it is legal so the referee really can't stop him. Castillo follows suit and gives Profe a big clothesline then starts pounding him on the mat before the 2nd round ends. Castillo starts the 3rd round just peppering Profe with shots knocking him down which allows Ron Starr to wrap a chain around Profe's glove which he would use to wallop Castillo for the DQ. This is something else and extra material.WWC TV Title: The Invader © vs. "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers (May 1988)Good back and forth action to start before Jaggers locked on a reverse chinlock to take the advantage. Jaggers worked this chinlock for what seemed like forever before trying to pin Invader using the ropes. Invader tried to come back but Jaggers would go right back to that chinlock before it turned into a slugfest with Invader making his comeback before the battle went to the floor where of course both men would be counted out. Damn was Jaggers really boring here with that damn chinlock. The Renegade Warriors (Mark & Chris Youngblood) vs. Tony Falk & Antonio Zapatin (June 1988)Pretty much a squash.Universal Heavyweight Title: Carlos Colon © vs. Hercules Ayala (7/23/88)Ayala goes after Colon big time to start as he takes him to the floor and pounds him head first onto the table then starts roughhousing him. Colon is wearing white so yes the blood should be flowing like wine. Colon is getting beaten from pillar to post by Ayala then Chicky Starr gets his shots in as well and Colon is getting railroaded. Ayala gets a big bearhug on Colon and it's looking dire for him but Colon has the spirit and he breaks free using his great punches. Colon now is getting his wind back and comes firing shots even while selling his back and the crowd is going nuts. Ayala is now juicing as Colon is a punching machine. Colon then goes to work on Ayala's left leg getting Ayala down for the Figure-Four but Ayala would counter him twice but not a third time. Chicky is trying to motivate Ayala to get free but they are in the middle of the ring so Chicky climbs up top and gets tossed off by Chris Youngblood. Ron Starr & Mark Youngblood then run out and we have a 4-way brawl. The rest of the locker room clears out and all start fighting with each other as Ayala is still in the Figure-Four. The referee is totally lost then Ron Starr comes off the top rope to attack Colon allowing Ayala to break free but as Colon went for another Figure-Four, Ayala caught him with an inside cradle to win the title. The match was really good but the wild brawling around ringside was chaotic and added an extra element to this match. Solid nomination.Ricky Santana vs. El Solitario (July 1988)Easy win for Ricky."Nature Boy" Buddy Landell vs. Maelo Huertas (July 1988)Maelo puts forth a spirited effort here but Buddy uses a powerbomb of all things to set up the Corkscrew Elbow and the Figure-Four to win.WWC World Tag Titles: The Renegade Warriors (Mark & Chris Youngblood) © vs. The Ninja Express (Kendo Nagasaki & Mr. Pogo) (7/23/88)Youngbloods are dominant to start working over the Japanese then we go to a break and come back with Pogo locking on the Cobra Clutch on Mark. The crowd was pumped up now cheering for Mark as the Japanese were doubling up on him as much as they could. Chris then joined the action outside the ring as both teams brawled around the stadium for a bit before coming back to the ring where Pogo dropped Mark with a piledriver for a nearfall. Mark would catch Pogo with a knee to the groin though to get the hot tag to Chris who ran wild and the 4-way brawl was on. They would take out Kendo with a Double Drokpick then Chris got Pogo in an O'Connor Roll for a 2 count thinking they won the match but they didn't then Kendo whacked Chris with the kendo stick and Pogo covered for the win. This started out slow but it picked up late and I dug the finish. I'll throw this up as a low-end nomination.Caribbean Heavyweight Title: TNT © vs. "Nature Boy" Buddy Landell (July 1988)Budro has Hercules Ayala with him at ringside and he is playing total Southern chickenshit heel to start which is great. Budro then wants to box with TNT and that surely didn't work then we get a clip as Buddy had TNT in a headlock then he was kicking him when he was on the mat and he was working over his left leg. TNT at times would get free and got some spots in but Buddy would find a way to get him back down on the mat. Buddy would wrap TNT's leg around the ringpost twice for good measure before TNT had enougn and started making his comeback. TNT hit a big spinning enzuigiri then started pounding on Buddy. Ayala got on the apron and got attacked by TNT which allowed Buddy to catch TNT from behind and then he locked on the Figure-Four Leglock. TNT is fighting hard and almost has it turned over but Ayala knocks him out with a foreign object and Landell gets the win. Miguel Perez Jr. then runs out and tells the referee what happened and the referee changes the finish. This is a pretty good match and I'll throw it on the block as a low-end nomination.20 Man El Bronca Boricua for $10,000 (July 1988)The guys coming out from under the floor with all kinds of fucking weapons like PVC PIPES is a crazy visual. This is fucking nuts as dudes are just nuking dudes with weapons such as Dan Kroffat totally blindsiding Invader with a jagged 2x4. Blood starts flowing immediately as guys are recklessly swinging weapons at each other. TNT was wearing a white shirt it was covered in blood and guys that were wearing no shirts their chests were covered in blood. The problems everyone blew up early on and mid-match they were getting tired and were just standing around for a bit. Chicky & Jovica brawling on the floor was fun as they were swinging straps at each other. Guys are now starting to get tossed fast and furious and the last four men in were Landell, Ron Starr, Rufus, & Ricky Santana. Ricky was fucking firing shots on Landell like a maniac until he got tossed over by Landell. Rufus outsmarted the heels who hurt each other until they started doubling up on him but Starr would knee Landell over the top then Rufus backdropped Starr to win. This was a fucking fun as shit spectacle that has to be on the set as a nomination.Hercules Ayala vs. Dirty Dutch Mantell (July 1988)This starts out slow and then we get a break where we miss a good chunk as now Ayala is getting the heat on Dutch so this is clipped up pretty good. Dutch made a fun comeback after kicking Ayala in the balls but Ayala would take him down and pinned him with his feet on the ropes. Dutch complained afterwards to no help.Carlos Colon vs. Kendo Nagasaki (July 1988)This actually starts with a good bit of chain wrestling here and it's not that bad actually especially on Colon's end. Colon hit his neckbreaker drop and then worked over Kendo's left leg before locking on the figure-four with Kendo giving up. Wow this was interesting to see Kendo submit right in the middle and have basically no control section. Next we get Chicky Starr's Sport Shop with Bart & Brad Batten who have just entered the area who want the WWC Tag Titles and there is nothing much to this.Caribbean Tag Titles: The Kansas Jayhawks (Bobby Jaggers & Dan Kroffat) © vs. The Caribbean Express (Huracan Castillo Jr. & Miguel Perez Jr. (7/9/88)We get some fun back and forth action to start between Kroffat & Castillo before we go to a break and the Jayhawks are now getting the shine on Castillo. Miguel would finally get the tag and he ran wild on Kroffat then Jaggers came in to help Kroffat who was bumping his ass off here making Perez look like a whirlbeater. Miguel catches Kroffat and hits a big powerslam before Jaggers kicks the referee for the DQ. Disappointing as this had potential.Bart & Brad Batten vs. Mr. Pogo & Kendo Nagasaki (July 1988)The Battens attack the Japanese before the bell but their advantage doesn't last long as the Japanese take turns working over Bart. Bart would eventually tag in Brad before the 4-way brawl starts ending with Brad hitting a dropkick off the top rope on Kendo but Kendo would get up and took an inside cradle to end the match. Nothing match that lasted like 3 minutes.Caribbean Tag Titles: The Kansas Jayhawks (Bobby Jaggers & Dan Kroffat) © vs. Los Vigilantes (July 1988)This looks liek a normal squash match as these two masked men were in all black suits wearing masks. They get a little offense in and the Jayhawks drop to the floor and woner what is going on here. Jayhawks come back in the ring and the match seems now like a normal squash match as the Jayhawks pretty much dominate these guys. The longer this goes on the more it feels like something different as the masked men make a comeback and the crowd knows something is up. Then one of the masked men came off the top rope with a big splash on Kroffat to win a major upset and they unmask as Huracan Castillo Jr. & Miguel Perez Jr. then get the belts but Jaggers said that they didn't sign to face them and the decision would be overturned. The match wasn't really special but the angle was great and a definite extra.Bart & Brad Batten vs. "Bulldog" Don Kent & El Profe (July 1988)Kent is old as dirt and the total opposite of the Battens. This was mainly a spotlight match for the Battens.Rufus R. Jones vs. Tony Falk (June 1988)What a match this is.....Rufus wins in seconds.WWC TV Title: Ron Starr © vs. Chris Youngblood (7/29/88)The early part of this match is built around hair pulling and Starr punching Chris in the balls as the ref wasn't looking. Starr was really good playing the chickenshit here before he really starts taking it to Chris. Starr throws him to the floor where he then bashes his head against the boards in front of the fans. Starr pounds on him some more then plays king of the mountain in the ring as the fans throw stuff at him. Chris finally rolls back in and still gets punished before Starr missed a big diving legdrop off the middle rope and now Chris is fired up making a comeback with Starr being awesome at begging off. Chris goes for his slingshot splash but he hits all knees then Starr takes him out with a DDT. This was a fun match but too one-sided for a nomination to me.Ricky Santana vs. Mr. Pogo (July 1988)Santana comes in a house of fire just beating Pogo from pillar to post utnil Pogo gets some shots in and stars biting at a cut on Santana's forehead which really brings out the juice. Santana is a fucking mess here as Pogo locks on the Cobra Clutch and Santana from the will of the fans tries his best to power out of the hold until he gets desperate enough to kick him in the balls. Santana now is fired up and makes a spirited comeback before Pogo goes to the floor trying to escape and finally does. This is a wild brawl and a fairly easy nomination. The Caribbean Express (Huracan Castillo Jr. & Miguel Perez Jr.) vs. The Kansas Jayhawks (Bobby Jaggers & Dan Kroffat) (August 1988)Now we have the Express as themselves and this has some good back and forth action to start as both teams work at a fast pace especially Kroffat who is really looking great in this time period. As this is going on, Kroffat accidentally clotheslines the referee and the match takes a bad turn as Jaggers unhooks the top rope and bashes Miguel with the steel part. Jaggers then starts cutting Miguel's hair while Kroffat holds a bag then he goes and cuts some of Castillo's hair as well. Fans are throwing trash in the ring but no one is coming to save the babyfaces for a while until they show up. This is a definite extra.WWC TV Title: Ron Starr © vs. Carlos Colon (8/20/88)Colon gets some shots in on Starr to start forcing Starr to go to the ground to recover. Colon works a headlock for what seemed like forever...they didn't lay for a long period of time in one spot but they would get up and immediately go back down. Starr finally got some offense after raking Colon's eyes and now he starts firing some shots with the match finally picking up some steam. Starr catches Colon with a big kneelift for a nearfall as Colon gets his foot on the rope and then he decides to go to the mat with a front chancery. Starr would get up and then he tossed Colon to the ground then continues his pressure back in the ring as he is running through Colon like nothing. Colon though would make a comeback and they start trading big shots with both men hitting hard. Colon seems to have Starr reeling until both men drop to the ground where Starr would post Colon then hiptossed him on the dirt where he would miss a diving kneedrop. Colon then started kicking at Starr's leg around the field before they got back in the ring. Chicky Starr then runs out with Colon throwing Ron into Chicky who then comes in the ring where he can't quit hitting Ron then Colon headbutted him out. Colon then locked on the Figure-Four Leglock and Starr submitted to give Colon the title. Colon refused to break the hold afterwards until finally doing it to get his belt. I hated the headlock stuff early on but the rest of the match was pretty damn good and this is a low-end nomination.Universal Heavyweight Title: Hercules Ayala © vs. TNT (8/6/88)TNT frustrates Ayala early on with his offense and sends Ayala to the ground to regroup. TNT gets a early nearfall on a cross body block and he keeps up the pressure on Ayala who again has to go outside to recover. We go to a commercial and come back to Ayala now in the ring working over TNT's knee so we missed some action. Ayala would lock on the Figure-Four right in front of Colon who was outside the ring and TNT is fighting to get free. TNT finally got free and made a comeback throwing some shots at Ayala including some kicks with his bad leg which he did sell. TNT would miss a big running splash in the corner but came back hitting a big savate kick then went for the Cobra Clutch which sent the crowd in a frenzy. TNT locked it on tight until Chicky jumped on the apron which brought Colon & Huracan Castillo Sr. to attack him. Abdullah the Butcher then runs out and Colon goes after him then Ron Starr runs in the ring and jumps TNT for the DQ. This was fun but disjointed at times and not enough for a nomination.Next we get the WWC Awards which we've already seen.Huracan Castillo Jr. vs. Hercules Ayala (August 1988)Ayala starts out strong taking the battle to Castillo inside the ring and Chicky getting his shots in from outside the ring. Ayala then goes to the floor and throws Castillo against the railing and this is a total mauling at the moment. Castillo would finally make a comeback on the floor and sent Ayala back in the ring where he got an offensive flurry and almost had Ayala pinned on a cross body block off the top rope. Castillo would miss a diving headbutt and Ayala went for the knee then the Figure-Four Leglock with Castillo submitting. This was basically a glorified squash for Ayala.Rufus R. Jones vs. Mr. Pogo (August 1988)A main event in any arena in Central States in 1985. This is a simple match with Rufus working over Pogo who is good at being a chickenshit here selling, begging, going to the floor to stall, etc....Rufus wouldn't quit punching Pogo in the corner so the referee tried to pull him away and in the process Pogo chopped the referee who called for the DQ.Already seen TNT vs. Landell.Detroit Demolition (Randy Culley) vs. Maelo Huertas (October 1988)Demo is new here and he destroys Huertas. Then we get clips of a Castillo/Perez vs. Kent/Profe match.Steel Cage Match: Carlos Colon vs. Ron Starr (8/13/88)Yeah this is exactly what you want....Colon just manhandles Starr to start beating the fuck out of him with punches bloodying him before Starr comes back and uses the cage as his weapon of choice to bloody up Colon then following that up with punches. Starr tries to leave the cage but that ain't happening and he & Colon brawl at the top of the cage before Colon kicks him back in the ring. This now becomes a total war as both men take turns bringing out more juice from the other one and enjoying it which is what Puerto Rico is all about. Starr tries to walk out the door but Colon stops him then he kicks Starr right in the balls as now we have zero fucks given from both men to try and win this match. Colon tries to walk out but Starr stops him and hits him with a sweet Million Dollar Kneelift. The story now is who is going to go out the door first after trying to maim the other one. This turned into quite the drama filled match as each time someone went for the door the other one got more desperate it seemed. Both men would battle at the door and then both knocked each other out at the same time to the ground in a cool finish. Both men then kept beating the shit out of each other around the stadium with Colon suplexing Starr right on the grass. Starr would get up and hit Colon with a short clothesline then tried to do it on the cage door but missed. This was an amazing match and a grand slam nomination.Detroit Demolition vs. Rufus R. Jones (10/1/88)This wasn't good or anything but definitely fun for what it was as Rufus was definitely effective in his Jimmy Valiant in JCP role here. The battle goes to the floor where they brawled around the building for a double countout.Handicap Match: Grizzly Boone vs. Angelo Figueroa & Raoul Luiz (October 1988)Squash.Invader III vs. The Assassin (10/1/88)Spotlight match for Invader.
