Some other favorites are The Way of the Gun, The Goonies, Rudy, The Rookie, Die Hard, Reservoir Dogs, The Godfather, The Boondock Saints, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, Hellraiser, Phantasm & The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If I were to name anyone, it'd come off as being totally clich?, much like I'm sure a lot of my movies do. Favorite actor(s): Michael Madsen, Robert DeNiro & Al Pacino Favorite type(s) of film: "Gangster" movies & Horror movies. Last film that made you laugh: The Wedding Crashers Last film that made you cry: Rudy. "Who's the wildman now!?" Last film that made you think: Probably Memento or some shit like that. Maybe, but "lets have a catch" gets me every time. Last film that made you think: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Last film that you loved: Sin City Last film that you hated: Original Sin is pretty much a waste other than the scenes where Angelina Jolie is nekkid. Last film that surprised you: Legally Blonde. My fiancee made me watch it and I was ready to totally hate it, but it won me over at the end. Last film that disappointed you: Be Cool. I wasn't expecting greatness, but holy shit was this terrible. Film(s) you most want to see: Walk The Line, Brokeback Mountain, King Kong (2005)

January 1, 200620 yr comment_4235292 Favorite film(s): Leon (French), Battle Royale (Japanese), Rounders, City of God (Brazilian & so unexpectedly gangsta), Kill Bill Favorite director(s): Quentin Tarantino, Beat Takeshi, Stephen Chow, Robert Rodgriguez, Alfred Hitchcock Favorite actor(s): Hrm. I like badasses. Nathan Fillion is the shit as Mal Reynolds on Firefly, Keifer Sutherland owns you as Jack Bauer on 24, I wanna screw George Clooney in From Dusk Til Dawn and in Out of Sight. Denzel deserved that Oscar for Training Day. James Gandolfini and Michael Chiklis do it for me on The Sopranos and The Shield, respectively. I'll blow Matt Damon in The Rainmaker, Dogma and Rounders. Favorite type(s) of film: anything that does what it's trying to accomplish well. Last film that made you laugh: The 40 Year Old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, Kung-Fu Hustle (Chinese) Last film that made you cry: The Green Mile (Didn't actually cry but got crazy choked up...this was back in '99, btw.) Last film that made you think: 2046 (Chinese), Mysterious Skin, Mullholland Dr., Memento Last film that you loved: Oldboy (Korean: Screw M. Night Shyamalan...this is how you do a twist ending!), Serenity, Sin City, Batman Begins, Kung-Fu Hustle, Hustle & Flow Last film that you hated: Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Four Brothers, Fantastic Four, Elektra Last film that surprised you: Waiting (I went in expecting a few chuckles...this was much funnier than I thought it'd be be. This is to wait service people what Half Baked is to potheads.), Tom Yum Goong (trust me when I say the last 20 minutes or so are the most innovative and unexpected minutes of martial arts you're going to see for a long, long while. I don't CARE if Jet Li never makes another martial arts movie. Tony Jaa is that new nigga!), Troy (I had no idea I'd like Troy so much. Eric Bana now gets a pass from me for The Hulk. He ruled so hard as Hector. I haven't quoted a movie this much since I first saw the Fist of the North Star anime.) Last film that disappointed you: Jarhead, Cinderella Man, Constantine, Hellboy, Underworld, Once Upon a Time in Mexico...all of these had the potential to be great and seemed to settle for being just good or passable. January 2, 200620 yr comment_4237311 Can I just say Scarface, to me, is one of the most overrated classics ever? It's a good movie, but given the insane hype and love it's gotten in the last decade and a half or so, just doesn't match up with the film itself. It's overly long and while Pacino isn't supposed to be likeable, I was almost anxious to see him go down in a line of fire by time it happened. I understand the main theme of the film (the world is yours) is what sells so many on it, namely the hip-hop industry, but it's one of those good movies I just don't understand the insane hard-on for. Favorite film(s): Batman Begins, Batman, RoboCop, Tommy Boy, Boogie Nights Favorite director(s): Hitchcock, Paul Thomas Anderson, Sergio Leone Favorite actor(s): Tough call. I've found that I'm more partial to the film itself than who's in it, even though the cast is one of the biggest elements for the quality of the movie. I think I'm more interested in the bit players. You may not necessarily know their name, but they're the ones turning up in a lot of the movies you see and get you saying, "Hey, I know that guy from something." Phillip Baker Hall's a great example. Favorite type(s) of film: Period pieces, mostly. Although I know they're often embelished, I dig films that use a true story as its basis (i.e. Boogie Nights). This excludes horror crap. I really dislike horror, but love the genre circa 1930s. Last film that made you laugh: Since I just watched it a couple hours ago, 40-Year-Old Virgin Last film that made you cry: Ikiru Last film that made you think: Stay Last film that you loved: Sunset Blvd. Last film that you hated: Into the Blue Last film that surprised you: Waiting was the most recent one until last night when I saw The Island Last film that disappointed you: Last Days Film(s) you most want to see: Chinatown, The Deer Hunter, Hustle & Flow, The Night of the Hunter, Mean Streets. I think I've seen just about everything that's recently been in theaters.
January 3, 200620 yr comment_4243894 Favorite film(s): The Princess Bride, Hero, Crash Favorite director(s): HK movies: John Woo American movies: Tie between Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg, Tony Scott, and Kevin Smith! Why these? Quentin has been on a roll since he started directing in '92. Every one of his movies that I have seen (except 4 rooms) I've loved. Steve Spielberg? He can do any genre. Horror, Action Adventure, Dramas, you name it, that trick is in his bag. And yeah, sure, Tony might be considered the "lesser Scott" but he's got Top Gun, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, Man on Fire, and Domino. AND, he's remaking THE WARRIORS~! And Kevin Smith needs no explanation. Favorite actor(s): John Cusack Edward Norton Favorite type(s) of film: Martial arts action Regular action Last film that made you laugh: Battlefield Baseball Last film that made you cry: Sopyonje (a Korean movie) Last film that made you think: God, I've seen a lot of movies that made me think lately. In a theatre, it had to be Crash. I thought a LOT in that movie and afterwards. At home...Mulholland Drive and Chaos would be the ones that made me think the most. Not to mention Blow Up which made my head hurt because I had to think TOO much. Last film that you loved: The Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia!, Sin City, Batman Begins Last film that you hated: Blow Up directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. And I won't say that I hated it, necessarily, but I just didn't like it because it was too obscure. I also didn't quite appreciate Le Samourai the way it should be appreciated. Last film that surprised you: Oldboy. Disturbing, and I was really shocked that I actually liked it. Last film that disappointed you: Audition. Only because the hype on the scariness of the movie really freaked me out, and it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined. Same with Cure. Film(s) you most want to see: Lost in Translation (have not yet been happy enough to be in a place where it'd be okay to be depressed after watching) Ichi the Killer (but I'm afraid, very afraid) Memoirs of a Geisha Initial D: The Movie These last two I already know are going to piss me off. Oh well.
January 12, 200620 yr comment_4296422 Favorite film(s): Gladiator, Tombstone, The Transporter, Payback, Tommyboy. That list might change as I have a whole bunch of DVD?s I haven?t seen yet. Favorite director(s): the ones that make movies that don?t suck Favorite actor(s): depends on the role and the genre Favorite type(s) of film: Dramas, Comedies Last film that made you laugh: Tommyboy, because it was the last funny movie I have seen. Last film that made you cry: Forrest Gump Last film that made you think: Mulholland Drive Last film that you loved: either Gladiator or Tombstone Last film that you hated: Napoleon Dynamite Last film that surprised you: Boondock Saints, Cop Land Last film that disappointed you: Napoleon Dynamite Film(s) you most want to see: Walk the Line
January 13, 200620 yr comment_4307766 Favorite film(s): Tokyo Story & Au Hasard Balthazar Favorite director(s): Yasujiro Ozu, Robert Bresson, Kenji Mizoguchi, Mikio Naruse & Hiroshi Shimizu Favorite actor(s): Chishu Ryu and Giulietta Masina Favorite type(s) of film: Shomin-geki Last film that made you laugh: Time of the Gypsies Last film that made you cry: Probably Actress Last film that made you think: My Architect Last film that you loved: Time of the Gypsies Last film that you hated: Irma Vep Last film that surprised you: Stranger than Paradise Last film that disappointed you: 2046 was a disappointment Film(s) you most want to see: More films by Shimizu, Naruse, Uchida, Gosho & Lino Brocka

Loved it. Last film that made you cry: I don't remember Last film that made you think: Watched 'Mulholland Dr.' last night. Last film that you loved: 'Mulholland Dr.' Last film that you hated: 'Star Wars: Episode III' Last film that surprised you: 'Under Suspicion' Last film that disappointed you: 'Kingdom of Heaven' Film(s) you most want to see: Too many to list.
January 15, 200620 yr comment_4315712 Favorite film(s): Rushmore, 24 Hour Party People, True Grit ( John Wayne will fuck you up ), Akira Kurosawa's Ran, Drunken Master, City of God ( like CJ Said...SO GANGSTA ), Caligula Reincarnated as Hitler ( the ultimate experience in tasteless italian b-grade film ), Kill Bill series, and of course, The Big Lebowski. Favorite director(s): Kurosawa is the fucking man. Almost every director I can think of should pay their respects to this guy. Genius. Takeshi Miike is on some hit or miss shit with me, but when he hits, it's great. Havent seen enough of Kitano's work to make a judgement. I love Tarantino with a passion, and he's never made a film that I havent enjoyed immensly. Same feelings about Wes Anderson. Scorsese is also hit or miss for me, but I find myself surprisingly into movies he's done that nobody else seems to like ( "Bringing out the Dead" is a good example. ). Favorite actor(s): John Goodman, who is still one of the best bit-part players in the business today. Toshiro Mifune is never bad to me. Robert Mitchum is one of those badass guys who never got stale. I can watch Christopher Walken in ANYTHING and still enjoy it, even shitty movies. The guy just rules. Pacino before he degenerated into self-parody ( "Serpico" is my shit! ), and Tasanobu Asano, he who portrayed Kakihara in the film "Ichi the Killer". Favorite type(s) of film: Just about anything I can get my hands on, really. I enjoy most smart comedies, drama, martial arts, and anything that is wholly tasteless and devoid of what people would call "art" ( Im looking in the direction of "No Holds Barred" here. ) Last film that made you laugh: 40 year old virgin ( The extended shit with Mooj is hilarious. "It's not about your Cincinatti Bowtie, or your Alligator Fuckhouse..." ). It's simply one of the funnier things I've seen in a while, and a rare situation where NONE of the extended material falls that flat. "Date-A-Palooza" is great when extended ( "My shit is large and I likes to get rough, and I need to know how you stand on that." ), and overall, just a funny-ass movie. I died when they did "Age of Aquarius". Last film that made you cry: Shit. Um, "My Girl" when I was around five or six. Christ, that's embarassing. Moving on... Last film that made you think: Syriana. Last film that you loved: Layer Cake. that movie kicked so much ass, it hurts. It has one of the more realistic beatdowns I've seen in movies, and doing it from the guy who's getting beaten down's perspective was a great touch. After I watched that scene ( in the diner, btw ) with a friend of mine, he said: "Jeezus! I feel like I just got my ass kicked!!". Ending is great, the story unfolds well, it all is good. Plus, see Cheif O'Brien be a hardass! Last film that you hated: Doom. My friends work at the Cinemark in town, so we see free movies all of the time. Wednsday night, nothing to do...we go see Doom. I felt cheated. I wasnt expecting much when I went in...and I left feeling underwhelmed. Last film that surprised you: Meet the Fockers. I never saw it because it seemed so trite, but I caught it on HBO the other day, and I was pleasently surprised. Not really a good movie, but funnier than I expected. Last film that disappointed you: Chronicles of Narnia. I had HIGH Expectations for this, and although Tilda Swinton is a badass, this film just fell sorta flat for me. Maybe it's just me. Film(s) you most want to see: V for Vendetta, Hostel, Snakes on a Plane ( I just keep imagining this movie being done by Chappelle's impression of Samuel L. Jackson..."You aint never seen my movies?! Snakes on a Plane! They fuckin let loose some snakes on the motherfuckin PLANE!!"), X-Men 3, and Superman Returns.
January 16, 200620 yr comment_4320678 Favorite film(s): What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, Happiness, Breathless, Cool Hand Luke, The Colour Of Money, The Hustler, Bullitt. Favorite director(s): Stylistically, Brian De Palma. Creatively, Jean Luc Goddard. In terms of entertainment, probably Wes Anderson. For realism and social commentary, Ken Loach. For diversity and ingenuity, Jim Jarmusch. As all round complete packages, Hitchcock and Tarantino. Favorite actor(s): Tim Roth, Al Pacino, Paul Newman, Christoper Walken, Steve McQueen, Gary Oldman. Favorite type(s) of film: Comedies and dramas. Last film that made you laugh: Anchorman although last night I was watching Richard Pryor Live On The Sunset Strip. Last film that made you cry: What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Last film that made you think: Thirteen. Last film that you loved: Sin City. Last film that you hated: Cabin Fever Last film that surprised you: Thirteen. Last film that disappointed you: Cabin Fever. Film(s) you most want to see: I'm interested in the new V for Vendetta, Clerks film, Superman and X-Men flicks, want to get around to seeing Crash, The Constant Gardener, King Kong and Capote. I'm hoping Watchmen doesn't suck ass when and if it gets into production and rolls out into the theatres, although it'd probably be better as a high budget HBO series than a film given it's format. Incidentally Scarface < Dog Day Afternoon in my opinion for Pacino flicks. Pacino in Scarface is somewhat of a caricature in Scarface and while it does have it's moments, I think it's more memorable for it's script than quality whereas Pacino's acting is impeccable in Dog Day Afternoon.
January 16, 200620 yr comment_4324784 I like Dog Day Afternoon...but Serpico rules. I will admit that, for all it's quotability, Scarface is a bit of a ridiculous movie. Pacino kind of over-acts in it, and he continues to do that every other film or so from then on. He's great, he's bleh, he's great, he's bleh, etc. Most recent example would be his work in "The Merchant of Venice" ( great ) and "Two for the Money" ( Bleh. )
January 16, 200620 yr comment_4325358 Since this is breaking down into a Pacino thread, I think I liked his acting in Dog Day Afternoon the best, but I think as a whole movie, Scarface is better. I thought Serpico was really good, but still third best of the movies mentioned. In terms of more recent stuff, I liked him in Insomnia and Two for the Money. But he seemed to fall into his usual parody of himself role in The Recruit. Excellent in Donnie Brasco also.
January 16, 200620 yr comment_4326192 Scarface is arguably the more entertaining movie (although I think the moral of the story is more along the lines of "absolute power corrupts absolutely" and "never underestimate the other man's greed" rather than "the world is yours" since he had it all and lost it because of his ego and misguided belief in his untouchable status) however the final minutes of DDA are a masterclass in understated acting. Pacino uses his eyes and micro expressions to convey so much without saying a word. The only relatively new actors I can think that use them are Vincent D'Onofrio and maybe Jason Scwartzman. I do think the closing minutes of DDA and the scene in Donnie Brasco where he takes off all his jewels knowing he is going to die are equally poignant because of their understated nature as both characters accept the fates that await them. Merchant of Venice is so fucking underrated in his ouevre it isn't even funny.
January 17, 200620 yr comment_4328558 Oh, dont get me wrong. Scarface is super entertaining--who wouldnt love it? But I still think it isnt his best film. For the record, I loved him in "The Devil's Advocate." He was understatedly creepy for long enough until his true nature appeared to Keaneu, at which point the "God Is an Absentee Landlord!" rant happens, and that shit fucking rules.
January 17, 200620 yr comment_4329705 I think Devil's Advocate was blah movie that could have been great if not for Reeves and the patchy script. Pacino really saved that thing from the shitheap.
