Posted July 14, 20169 yr comment_5759217 "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert vs. Barry Windham (1/4/89)This is a special challenge match and it starts different from the last one as Gilbert doesn't give a shit and slaps Windham right in the face. That set the tone of the match as both men traded offense in an extremely fun match as these guys worked extremely well together. Flair would show up at ringside as Gilbert continues to give Windham everything he can give him. Windham can't get an extended advantage because Gilbert is pesky as hell and won't quit. Windham gets overconfident again and hits a Superplex but he wastes time and doesn't go for the pin as he wants to punish Gilbert more. Gilbert locks on the Figure-Four right in front of Flair and after the hold gets broken, Flair gets so pissed that he runs in the ring and they double-team Gilbert leaving him laying. Dillon comes out next and said that they don't have time for Gilbert and they are getting rid of him like they did Dusty Rhodes & Bam Bam Bigelow. This was a very strong match and a easy nomination.Next we get a taped promo from Dusty Rhodes talking about being the NWA in 1989. This is Dusty's last promo on TBS for the next 2 years I think. Extra material.Michael "PS" Hayes vs. Paul Lee (1/4/89)Hayes makes his return to TBS and facing jobber Paul Lee no less. Hilarious. Steve Casey aka Steven Dane is shown watching the match from afar as Hayes just kills Lee with the DDT. Hayes & JYD then talk to Ross after the match about JYD going for Flair and them going for the US Tag Titles. Hayes then quotes Bad to the Bone as well. The Varsity Club (Kevin Sullivan & Steve Williams) vs. Mike Collins & Randy Hogan (1/4/89)The US Tag Champs totally manhandle these guys and after the match, Sullivan calls out the Road Warriors wanting their NWA World Tag Titles and NWA World Six-Man Tag Titles. Rotundo talks about Steiner stealing his belt and he would get it back. The Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) vs. Mike Jackson & Dale Laperhouse (1/4/89)Total destruction with Laperhouse leaving on a stretcher. The Roadies then call out Sullivan saying that they would destroy the Varsity Club. Roadies then say that they went to Japan to find them a new partner and say that Genichiro Tenryu would be their new NWA World Six-Man Tag Titles partner. Extra material.Flair, Windham, & Dillon are out next with Ross talking about beating up Bigelow and Gilbert with Flair saying it's a new year but Gilbert comes out and said that he has made a phonecall and that he has a mystery partner that will show up with him next week to face the Horsemen. Dillon wonders who he has because there is no one left to team with him since they got rid of all of them. Dillon agrees to Gilbert's challenge because he wants Gilbert gone. Flair then calls Gilbert a real man for getting in their face and said that they won't walk out next week. Definite extra. The Original Midnight Express ("Loverboy" Dennis Condrey & "Ravishing" Randy Rose) vs. Bob Emory & Trent Knight (1/4/89)OMX totally dismantle these guys and Paul E. and the boys join Ross afterwards where they show clips of them beating down the MX & Cornette on another show. Paul is great here wanting to end Cornette's career. Extra material."Latin Heartthrob" Al Perez & "Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko vs. George South & Curtis Thompson (1/4/89)Funny seeing Zbyszko here at the moment because he reappeared on the AWA TV that aired that weekend. Perez went missing for a while and makes his return as well. Abdullah the Butcher is at ringside with Gary Hart as Hart's charges win with no problems. Hart is then asked by Tony next saying that Perez & Zbyszko want shots at Flair and Hart said that he has let his men down but now he wants them to get their shots. Zbyszko then said that he would retire Flair next right after Bruno & Bockwinkel. NWA was doing some interesting things here with heels calling out other heels."Capt. Redneck" Dick Murdoch vs. Eddie Sweat (1/4/89)Murdoch toys with Sweat then puts him away with the Brainbuster.Next we get a taped promo from Missy Hyatt with Flair and she is a quasi heel here kissing his ass talking about how he beat Luger at Starrcade. Flair said that Luger is done and he won't get any more shots against him.The Midnight Express ("Beautiful" Bobby Eaton & "Sweet" Stan Lane) vs. Gary Royal & Keith Steinborn (1/4/89)Cornette during the match talks about how Paul E. won't get rid of him and how it's going to be the other way around. MX decimate their opponents as this is going on. After the match, Cornette talks about how they were all problem children and he is fantastic here talking about a future match with Paul E. Extra material.NWA World TV Title: "Dogfaced Gremlin" Rick Steiner © vs. "Captain" Mike Rotundo (1/4/89)The fans are nuts for Steiner here as he comes out and he hangs with them as he is introduced. Rotundo just nails Steiner with a clothesline at the bell and it's a fight after that. Rotundo outsmarting Steiner was his key strategy as well as Sullivan helping him when the time came. Steiner makes a comeback and Sullivan tries to get him over the top rope but Steiner doesn't go over right and falls on his own so Sullivan could attack him. Steiner makes a comeback when Dr. Death runs out for the DQ. Teddy Long gets knocked down then the VC destroy Steiner with a spike piledriver. Sullivan tried to steal Steiner's dog when Hayes & JYD ran out to make the save."Total Package" Lex Luger & Sting vs. Agent Steel & Bill Holiday (1/4/89)The jobbers jump Luger at the bell which was a mistake as he nails them with a double clothesline. Sting and Luger then proceed to make these guys pay even more for their mistake. They join Ross after the match with Luger saying that Flair can't duck him forever and Sting said that the new year is will be theirs.
