Agreed totally. Was disappointed to setup TIVO season pass to record upcoming stroker and hoops only to see them taken away for 12oz and squid. These two shows are so freakin stupid I thought CN was playing a one time joke. Not only is the animation horrible on 12oz its just not funny. And squid is not funny either, had to turn both after 7 minutes.

And boy do I hate all the Japanimation stuff they put on adult swim. I just dont get that stuff, arent cartoons supposed to be funny? At least thats why I watched them all my 35yrs of life. Japanimation tries too hard at trying to look artistic and dramatic. Animations should be funny, leave drama to live acting. Either that or give Japanese cartoons there own channel that we dont have to turn to.

So there you have it, cartoons should just be funny and not try to be like "live acting".

 

What makes this sad is it's not some 12 year old saying this, this guy (if you believe it) is 35 and was around for so much classic non-funny animation and just decided that an entire subset of animation should be done away with.

I hate it when people call it Japanimation. That's what annoyed me the most about that entire post you copied.

This thead ain't gonna make Dorian cry, its something I hafta deal with daily whenever I tell people that I like anime. They tell me it isn't funny, that it shouldn't be serious, and it shouldn't attempt to be "real" when it never can be.

 

I wonder if these ignorant people have ever realized that anime is split into many different categories, ranging from drama to sci-fi, romance to comedy, and anything else in-between. And many times, something isn't funny in anime when it supposed to be is because its culturally related. If you don't know the meaning, you'd have no clue as to why its funny.

 

And sure, harem romance comedies aren't for everyone, but at least with anime in Japan, there IS something available that you will like. Guarenteed. Here... Ugh, let's not go there.

So if it isnt about robots or looks like DBZ it should'nt be on Cartoon network?

I wonder if that guy has ever seen a Disney cartoon. The Lion King, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Iron Giant, etc. weren't "funny" 100% of the time.

 

It's like he typecast all cartoons as Looney Toons. Hey, I'm not fan a of anime myself but that doesn't mean I agree with that dude's generalizing comments.

I can understand why someone might not like anime. In many cases, its the style of art (which usually tries staying true to the mangaka's style of drawing), or how some of the shows are over the top (Love Hina, I guess).

 

A stance in which you deem all anime (when I say anime, I include NA and Japan) should be "Looney Toons", is ignorance and stupidity. Its also the type where I slap the person. Ugh...

What's sad is there's an anime shop out here that used to run ads on Cartoon Network all the time that called itself "Joy's Japanimation".....sigh.

Play on words like that, aren't so terrible. I don't like it myself, but things like that get noticed.
