Posted July 27, 20169 yr comment_5760755 This show was taped the same night as the infamous show that was supposed to air on 8/19 that was never seen because they put in the wrong tape so Ross is hyping up Dick Slater challenging Sting last week which no one saw.The Midnight Express ("Beautiful" Bobby Eaton & "Sweet" Stan Lane) vs. John Brewer & Keith Steinborn (8/16/89)Solid MX squash here.OMG we get the Skyscrapers set "In the Still of the Night" by Whitesnake!!!!! SLAM DUNK EXTRA.Cornette and the MX then cut a promo next about just who is the tag team of the 90's and Cornette thinks his boys fit that bill. Cornette then calls out the Freebirds and they are coming for them.Next we get a Terry Funk video set to his theme song. AWESOME...also a definite extra.Mike Justice & Trent Knight vs. The Skyscrapers (Danny Spivey & Sid Vicious) (8/16/89)Skyscrapers destroy these guys a little too much as they get DQed because Spivey wouldn't quit stomping Knight. Sid Vicious is becoming the 2nd Center Stage Cult Hero at this time as the fans were loving everything he did.Cornette then reads a letter from an angry Lex Luger female fan which was something.Next we get Rick Steiner's first date with Robin Green and it starts with Jim Ross trying to coach him on how to act. This is when Robin Green turns into Woman as Great Balls of Fire plays. Jim Ross is fantastic in this. Definite extra.Tommy "Wildfire" Rich vs. The Enforcer (8/16/89)Rich gets another good win here with the Thesz Press.Lex Luger joins Jim Ross next for a promo tearing up that fan letter from earlier and cuts a big douchebag promo. Then we get clips of the Doc/Rotundo 3 match series."Dr. Death" Steve Williams vs. Bill Ford (8/16/89)Funny thing about this match was that Ross mentioned on commentary about the Bam Bam Bigelow & Tony Mandarich grandstand challenges on Mike Tyson. Doc destroys this man and then talks to Jim Ross after the match about his feud wtith Rotundo.Next we get Bob Caudle presenting Ric Flair the trophy for the A&W King of the Slams competition. The Samoan Swat Team (Fatu & Samu) vs. Greg Evans & Richard Sartain (8/16/89)The former Rock & Roll Rebels and recently unmasked Ding Dongs get totally manhandled here.Dick Slater makes his return to the NWA with Gary Hart demanding that Sting face him. Even though the original return promo never aired. (8/16/89)Brad Armstrong vs. Cuban Assassin (8/16/89)Good to see Brad & David Sierra get work here although they deserved better pushes. During this match, Ross & Cornette run down the upcoming shows and they mention New Haven, Connecticut with Ross saying that the real "Titans of Wrestling" will be there which is great. Brad gets a good win here and this was a fine showcase match for both men. Then we get The Danger Zone where Paul E. is joined by Iron Sheik & Ron Simmons talking about their relationship where Sheiky said that he is going to make Simmons ready for everyone. Simmons said that Sheiky is the best mentor you could have. The Freebirds are out next for a promo talking about their issues with the Steiners & Missy Hyatt. Hayes said that she was sexually frustrated and never had a real man.The Fabulous Freebirds (Jimmy "Jam" Garvin & Michael "PS" Hayes) vs. Bob Emory & Mark Smith (8/16/89)Cornette rips on the Freebirds throughout commentary as the Birds methodically take out these guys.Ric Flair is out next for a promo with Jim Ross talking about the next Clash show where he will team with Sting against Funk & Muta. Flair talks about washing the paint off of Muta's face with his own sweat and he is going to make Funk bleed. Flair then said that Pillman is his kind of man.Flyin Brian Pillman vs. Fred Avery (8/16/89)Avery looking like a bobo Jim Neidhart is great and Pillman signs autographs on the way to the ring which was very World Class. Pillman wins the match with Air Pillman but Norman came out at one point an Pillman dropkicked him off the ring to the floor.Rick & Scott Steiner vs. The Bounty Hunter & Cruel Connection (George South) (8/16/89)Robin Green makes her debut at Center Stage in her Woman look and the crowd is definitely into it for sure. Ross & Cornette are something else on commentary. Steiner puts on the green cape which was great then along with Scott just maul these guys. After the match we get a promo with this crew and they want the Freebirds and their titles.Sting vs. Dirty Dick Slater (8/16/89)Sting tries to wrestle with Slater here but Slater wants to roughhouse it although he makes a mistake going up top as Sting press slammed him off. Sting then takes it back to the mat and is in advantage until Slater catches him with a swinging neckbreaker. Slater then worked over Sting's neck and slowed down the tempo to his pace but Sting would make a comeback taking it to the floor until Slater posted him shoulder first. Slater then fucking popped him hard with a right hand but Sting keeps on fighting. Slater would lock on a Figure-Four but Sting reversed it forcing a break of the hold. Sting then fucking went flying like a madman from the ring to the floor and overshot Slater who didn't catch him properly and hit the floor. Sting bounced back though and started fighting until Funk & Muta ran out for the DQ. Sting gets beaten down until Flair runs out only to get jumped himself. Pillman then runs out and hits Air Pillman on Slater but he would get jumped as well. Flair then ran back in and got the branding iron which he used on Slater's left arm numerous times as the others brawled around the ring. This was a fun match with a molten hot post-match angle and I'm throwing it up as a low-end nomination.Gary Hart then joins Jim Ross after the match and said that they are going to keep trying to beat up Flair & Sting until they do the job. Funk said that Flair doing that to Slater was uncalled for.
