World Championship Wrestling 9/23/89

Handicap Match: The Great Muta vs. Two Unknowns (9/14/89)

These guys were never named and Muta destroyed them in less than a minute. Gary Hart joined Jim Ross after the match and his lawyers will have Terry Funk's indefinite suspension lifted.

Lex Luger is out next with Ross talking about how he is the greatest wrestler in the world and that he is at his own level in every form and fashion. Luger is great here. Extra material.

"Total Package" Lex Luger vs. Rusty Riddle (9/14/89)

Luger rarely wrestled on WCW at this time and he took apart Riddle with ease here while acting like a douchebag.

Next we get the breakup of Rick Steiner & Robin Green which starts with Scott Steiner hanging out at a basketball court then a limo shows up with Robin alone inside looking for Rick. Robin then asked Scott for a drink and said that she appreciated that he didn't blame her for the tripping. Scott then was pulled in the limo and beaten up then left laying on the concrete as a guy that was built like Kevin Sullivan started kicking him around. Cornette & Ross were great here talking about what happened. Definite extra.

The Z-Man vs. Tommy Angel (9/14/89)

Another good win for the Z-Man as Cornette & Ross put him over very strong on commentary.

Flyin Brian Pillman vs. "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert (9/14/89)

Gilbert didn't shake any hands coming out and Pillman signed autographs as usual so that was something. The early part of this was Gilbert showing off his ring smarts countering Pillman's youth and athletic advantage. Gilbert is selling full force like a heel here which was fun to see as he really needed to turn at this time. Of course the emotion grew more and more as these two were hotheads and that added to the match. This really picked up from here as both men were bumping and selling for each other but Pillman was looking the best of the two. Gilbert went flying over the top rope to the floor off of Pillman's shoulder with Nick Patrick not calling for a DQ. Gilbert then hit a sunset flip from the apron back in the ring but Pillman countered it to get the win. I thought this was a good TV match and I'm putting this up as a low-end nomination.

The Dynamic Dudes (Johnny Ace & Shane Douglas) vs. Bob Cook & Joe Cruz (9/14/89)

Cornette is there with his new team and even does the intro for them. Quick win for the Dudes.

Ric Flair is out next talking about Funk's indefinite suspension as well as Sting's ankle injury which Flair said that he will be back in the ring as soon as possible. Flair said that he couldn't be happier that Funk is suspended but he would be even happier if Funk was brought back so he could kick his ass. Extra material.

World Championship Wrestling 9/30/89

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Gene Ligon (9/20/89)

Always a treat to see Naitch work squash matches and this was no different. Flair of course wins with the Figure-Four.

Luger joins Ross next for a promo saying that he was bigger than the US Title and he is the best in the world.

Road Warrior Animal vs. Tim Parker (9/20/89)

Animal totally kills this guy and then along with Ellering joins Ross for a promo talking about wanting the Skyscrapers and especially revenge on Teddy Long for costing them the NWA World Tag Titles.

Gordon Solie then talks about a press conference held by Ric Flair talking about Terry Funk paying his $100,000 fine and that the suspension was lifted and that Flair & Funk would have an I Quit Match at the Omni on 10/8 then Flair & Sting would face Funk & Muta at Halloween Havoc. Next they started showing a Flair promo and stopped because it wasn't time to show it.

"Capt. Redneck" Dick Murdoch vs. Dangerous Danny Spivey (9/20/89)

Murdoch & Spivey trading holds on the mat was quite the sight. That quickly changed though as Murdoch started throwing awesome punches and Spivey started hitting hard as well until Sid tried to trip up Murdoch. Dick then went to the floor and punched Sid numerous times until Murdoch chased Teddy Long to the ring where it was 3-on-1 with Murdoch eating a spike powerbomb. This was a fun segment.

Pillman is out next for a promo with Ross where he said that he would take Lex Luger's open challenge for a shot at the US Heavyweight Title at any time and any place.

The Dynamic Dudes (Johnny Ace & Shane Douglas) vs. Tommy Angel & Rick Ryder (9/20/89)

Another impressive win for the Dudes but Cornette is already having to assure Ross that there were no issues between the Dudes and the MX.

Next we get a taped promo from Robin Green where she deemed herself Woman and that she would dominate the wrestling world. Definite extra.

Cornette and the MX are out next for a promo talking about how they are trying to get a title match against the Freebirds but the Birds refused to defend against them. The Dynamic Dudes got the shot instead and the body language of the MX was telling a story as Cornette was talking. Jim Ross then asks Lane about the Dudes but he just shot him a look and walked off.

Flyin Brian Pillman vs. Cruel Connection (George South) (9/20/89)

Pillman again looks very good here and hits the Air Pillman to win the match.

The Steiners then cut a promo where Scott was banged up and Rick was upset that he didn't listen to Scott sooner. Rick then said they should've attacked him not Scott but Scott said that three guys attacked him and that they would get their revenge soon. Extra material.

Rick & Scott Steiner vs. Bob Cook & Joe Cruz (9/20/89)

The Steiners are pissed and they just beat the hell out of these guys.
