Flyin Brian Pillman vs. "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert (9/14/89)

Gilbert didn't shake any hands coming out and Pillman signed autographs as usual so that was something. The early part of this was Gilbert showing off his ring smarts countering Pillman's youth and athletic advantage. Gilbert is selling full force like a heel here which was fun to see as he really needed to turn at this time. Of course the emotion grew more and more as these two were hotheads and that added to the match. This really picked up from here as both men were bumping and selling for each other but Pillman was looking the best of the two. Gilbert went flying over the top rope to the floor off of Pillman's shoulder with Nick Patrick not calling for a DQ. Gilbert then hit a sunset flip from the apron back in the ring but Pillman countered it to get the win. I thought this was a good TV match and I'm putting this up as a low-end nomination.

Pillman outquicks Eddie early on. It's getting heated between the 2. Eddie powders on the tease of the Air Pillman. Eddie after the arm. Pillman reverses it. Stalemate between the 2. Tempers are flaring between the 2. A lot of starts and stops. Big drop kick by Pillman. Gilbert in control. I like this match as a building block into a feud. As a nomination, I'll go no.
