World Championship Wrestling 11/25/89

Kevin Sullivan joined Jim Ross on commentary for WCW this week.

Samoan Savage & The Samoan Swat Team (Fatu & Samu) vs. Mike Ford, Tim Hughes, & Trent Knight (11/16/89)

Humperdink in an inset promo before the match challenged any three men to face his Samoans to a match. The Samoans were totally dominant here.

The New Zealand Militia (Rip Morgan & Jack Victory) vs. Mike Jackson & Ricky Nelson (11/16/89)

Lord Littlebrook is with them for the first time officially as Kevin Sullivan does his Tattoo from Fantasy Island impression. The Militia look as good as they ever have beating these guys.

Next we get a taped promo from Teddy Long vowing to win the 4-team Iron Man Match at Starrcade.

The Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) vs. Terry Bronson & Pablo Crenshaw (11/16/89)

PABLO CRENSHAW makes his return to TBS only to get destroyed. The Roadies and Ellering join Ross after the match talking about Starrcade where they talk about taking out Doom & The Skyscrapers but nothing about the Steiners.

Then we get Gordon Solie in the Starrcade 89 Control Center with a Luger promo talking about how he was going to beat Flair, Muta, & Sting all in one night.

Doom (Butch Reed & Ron Simmons) vs. Brodie Chose & Mike Hart (11/16/89)

Nitron makes his TBS debut here as Woman's bodyguard as Doom murders these guys.

Rick & Scott Steiner vs. Randy Barber & Carl Nelson (11/16/89)

Rick got a young kid to hang with them during the match and even had the kid smack Nelson in the face. Steiners had easy pickings here then talk to Ross after the match about Starrcade and they have to wrestle everyone including their friends the Roadies.

Lee Scott & Jason Walker vs. The Midnight Express ("Beautiful" Bobby Eaton & "Sweet" Stan Lane) (11/16/89)

The MX comes out not dressed to wrestle and Lane said that they weren't going to bother wrestling these guys. They were going to let these guys win by countout so they can brag about it for years. MX then destroyed these guys and Cornette told Ross after the match that the fans were the reason why the MX weren't successful in the last year then challenged the Dudes as well as Flair to face Eaton to a match. Definite extra.

Sting vs. Agent Steel (11/16/89)

Solid win for Sting using the Scorpion Deathlock to win.

Luger cuts a taped promo after the match talking about being the hottest man in wrestling because everyone is after him. Luger talks about how he rules the NWA and there is no one that can stop him. Extra material.

Ric Flair is out next for a promo talking about his match with Muta later saying that it's an honor to wrestle Muta on TV. Flair also talks about Luger how he is now a big target for him and that Starrcade they will pay.

"Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer vs. Mike Justice (11/16/89)

Sawyer totally mauls this guy and during the match Ross mentions that Sting had to leave the building to catch a plane. Sawyer & Hart join Ross after the match talking about how Terry Funk was a quitter and all Texans are quitters. Buzz said that he would die before he quits which I could believe.

NWA World Heavyweight Title: "Nature Boy" Ric Flair © vs. The Great Muta (11/16/89)

What a TV main event this is and I love that Muta's facepaint is Great Kabukiesque. Flair started the match trying to keep Muta grounded on the mat which was the smart strategy to weaken him. Muta would counter though and he would use his ankle locks to work on Flair's legs including the Muta Lock. Center Stage is molten hot for Flair throughout and Flair the most over guy in that building at the time which said a lot. Muta constantly works over Flair's left leg but Flair fights back valiantly on the floor trading shots with Muta and this sets the tone for Flair's comeback as he starts firing away on Muta setting up for the Figure-Four. Flair has Muta in big trouble and then gets the Figure-Four when Dragon Master ran in for the DQ. Flair then puts the Figure-Four on Dragon Master on the floor as Muta sprayed Flair with some red mist then Sawyer ran out and it's 2-on-1 as the fans chant for Sting who isn't there. Muta hits the Moonsault on Flair with Sawyer making the count. The match was very good and the angle afterwards was hot so I'm putting this up as a solid nomination.

NWA Main Event 11/26/89

"Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer vs. Richie Rouge (11/13/89)

Sawyer totally kills this guy then Lee Scott comes out to make the save. Sawyer then demanded that he get in the ring too.

"Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer vs. Lee Scott (11/13/89)

Scott comes in fighting but Buzz murders him.

Next we get a taped promo from Ric Flair talking about Starrcade and how he wants Luger & Muta in the worst way.

Luger does a taped promo as well talking about how he is the premier athlete in wrestling and he will prove it at Starrcade.

"Hot stuff" Eddie Gilbert vs. Cuban Assassin (11/13/89)

Gilbert was supposed to turn heel at Halloween Havoc which didn't happen and now he is in kind of a purgatory on the depth chart. The fans still love him though and Gilbert starts out strong but the Assassin would roughhouse Gilbert. Cuban got a nearfall on a sunset flip from the apron and kept pounding on Gilbert until Eddie made his comeback getting a sunset flip of his own to get the win.

US Heavyweight Title: "Total Package" Lex Luger © vs. Flyin Brian Pillman (11/13/89)

This starts out with a brawl on the floor with Pillman taking the fight to Luger as the fans go nuts. Luger uses some cheapshots to stifle Pillman but Brian fights back. Luger ties Pillman to the tree of woe and grabbed a chair prompting Tommy Young to call for the DQ. Sting runs out though and attacks Luger as the crowd goes nuts and a female fan tried to get in the ring to stop him which was amazing. Sting beat the hell out of Luger in and out of the ring sending him running. Sting & Pillman then cut a promo after the match with Sting talking about Starrcade and Pillman still wanting more of Luger. This was a great segment and a definite extra.
