My God, this show is such a guilty pleasure. I've been TiVo-ing it every day on Soapnet, because I remembered watching it back in my teenage years. Season 1 was horrid until they turned the show around with more over-the-top soap opera stuff and actually had some evil elements; Season 2 was when they debuted Laura Leighton, who played Sydney, who was probably my favorite character on the show and also made Marcia Cross (currently on Desperate Housewives) a total psycho. Season 3 was when the storylines started becoming more coherent overall, and the identity of the show was pretty firmly in place. Season 4, however, has been a major disappointment thus far, as major plotholes are sneaking in (they're even more obvious when you watch a show every day than they are every week) and the rate at which characters go from friends to enemies and back again is pretty alarming. Still, for trashy camp, it doesn't get much better than this. When the series is over and it restarts on Soapnet, I'm going to post in this thread again and try to persuade everyone to watch from the beginning. If you can tough out a bad episode every day for the first month or so, you'll get to Season 2 and things will start to heat up.

So, if anyone else watched the show, what are some your favorite moments, and who were your favorite characters?

Melrose Place owned. Sydney was one of the television's best characters. I mean the Courtney Thorne Smith and whatever the dude's name was storyline sucked ass from day one but the rest of it was AWESOME!

Have you seen Laura Leighton lately? It's a travesty what's happened to her; she seems to have aged 25 years in the last 10. She looks like a smoker. That's doubly sad when you consider that she was doing the show from the time she was 25 until the time she was 29, where she was old than the majority of the cast members, but played the youngest cast member. She's actually two years older than her "older sister" Jane.

Speaking of Jane, she has gone from lame to awesome in record time. Season 4 and the storyline with Richard Hart has brought out a new side to her. She's the most believable character on the show, because she started off as this nice, naive girl next door and went through a very slow (3 year) transformation after being stabbed in the back by everyone close to her where she decided to be sort of a bitch. And in some ways, I think she's better at that role than Amanda (Heather Locklear) was. Heather Locklear still deserves credit for pulling off that role, though, because she's a total bitch with a very human side, so it's possible to loathe her and feel sorry for her at the same time. She's on her death bed trying to oust Allison (Courtney Thorne-Smith) from her job, and you hate her and feel sorry for her at the same time. Good actress.

I still think the best actor on the show was Doug Savant, but he was also given the least to work with.

And yeah, Billy and Allison both sucked, mainly because Billy can't act, but also because they were given bad, bad, bad material. Brooke was the only thing that ever came between them that was even remotely interesting, although Allison's recurring alcoholism is sort of okay.
