Posted September 8, 20169 yr comment_5767308 Per Collider news a director has been named. It's the person who did Punisher War Zone. So the movie is a go.
September 8, 20169 yr comment_5767309 Lexi Alexander? That is super weird, she is a pretty awesome gonzo action director (Punisher War Zone is a dope B action movie) but a pretty weird choice for something like this. It would be like putting John Woo or Gaereth Evans in charge.
September 8, 20169 yr comment_5767313 Hollywood is gonna make a movie about Chris Benoit ? Holy shit, and people "in da business" didn't like The Wrestler... This is gonna be fascinating on so many levels.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767322 "Based on" could mean something different from a straight bio-pic.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767323 "Based on" could mean something different from a straight bio-pic. That plus the choice of director has all the hallmarks of being a disaster.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767324 Like most stories of its type, this is something I have no desire to relive. Even if it's done well.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767325 There's a way it could be done that would be a compelling movie if done right, but I have less than zero faith anyone in Hollywood would do it correctly.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767327 I feel like this has been in development for ages, wasn't Liev Schreiber attached to the project at one point?
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767351 Well, seems like it's already beginning. There's nothing more than a director name and people are already hating on it, ah ah. Well, I for one am quite curious about it.
September 9, 20169 yr comment_5767353 Although I'm quite interested in seeing how it will be done, the idea of actually watching the movies makes my stomach hurt. I have NO desire whatsoever in doing this.
September 10, 20169 yr comment_5767421 sounds horrendous. I think there is a "right way" to attempt this, but it would be somewhat experimental, maybe Gus Van Sant-ish/early Linklater for it to work? Like, have it really just stick to the last 3 days, with flashback but not overemphasize on the "WWEness" of his career. Like, really boil it down to the very core of a guy with post-concussion issues causing dementia and homicidal urges, not anything close to a typical biopic. Edit - also, no real names. Inspired by true events but abstract enough to not bother attempting to tell a factual story. I guess the movie I'm thinking of is "let's talk about Kevin" (or whatever it was called). Bummer of a movie but really, really gripping.
September 10, 20169 yr comment_5767427 I'm hoping enough studio types keep interfering with it until it's a "wacky romantic comedy". "Yeah, can we lose the whole murder/ suicide bit? It's not testing well at all. And that Billy Jack Haynes guy mentioned in the book? LOVE. HIM. He's crazy! He's dumb ! I'm thinking, he's our best friend who has spin off sequel potential."

I was coming in to say I hope they cast you to play Stu Hart but this is even better.
September 10, 20169 yr comment_5767430 Realistically and in all seriousness, isn't Foxcatcher a similar story?
September 10, 20169 yr comment_5767435 Realistically and in all seriousness, isn't Foxcatcher a similar story? Except for the CTE, decade+ of steroid abuse, the world of pro wrestling, and a murder of a man's own wife and young child, yes.
September 10, 20169 yr comment_5767442 For some reason, I'm incredibly excited to hear any potential titles for this.
