Posted January 10, 200620 yr comment_4286910 Sutter received 76.9% of the vote. Everyone from Will Clark down falls off the ballot, including Doc Gooden. Clark's one of the best players to receive less than 5% of the vote, I'm guessing. Blyleven continues to gradually gain support. Gossage will likely be elected in 2008.
January 10, 200620 yr comment_4286957 Wait a second. Albert Belle has more HOF support than Will Clark? What is the world coming to?
January 10, 200620 yr Author comment_4286973 Even given his early demise from baseball and bad attitude, 7.7% for Belle is VERY surprising.
January 11, 200620 yr Author comment_4289628 Czech raised an interesting point via AIM. Does Sutter go in as a Cub or as a Cardinal?
January 11, 200620 yr comment_4289913 I think they'll pick the Cubs, was there one year longer than St. Louis and won his Cy Young there. What is going to show the true idiocy of baseball writers is when Gossage's support swells after this year and it will be simply be because Sutter is in now. They're logic will be "well I guess it's okay to vote closers" (Eckersley was a different case two years ago due to his unique career line) and thus vote Gossage will get in. I'm actually not a huge Gossage supporter and am on the fence about him getting in but he certainly deserves to be in over Sutter. Let's just hope the new support closers will get due Sutter's induction doesn't then let in the likes of Lee Smith and John Franco while so many great position players and starting pitchers are left out. Now let the Mark McGwire debate begin. The baseball writers "moral authority" will keep him out for the first year I believe, and really he'll be the 3rd best candidate on next year's ballot so no big deal, but I'd hope he'll get in 2008.
