To me Strong Style fitted in with the King of Sports moniker. Most NJ matches were portrayed as a sporting contest rather than fitting into a narrative such as good vs evil. In other promotions wrestler X would keep beating wrestler Y until there was an upset and that formed a storyline. In NJ it would be more like a favourite would win say 70% or 90% of the time depending on the matchup. The aim was to make wrestling a hard hitting, athletic contest with the feel of a legitimate sporting event.

That's also why NJ had the famous unpredictable pace for main events. It does not have that now. My God, does it not have that now.

The current main event style is a weird amalgamation of the Triple H mindset of post-Attitude Era main event atmosphere, the "Baba wanted AJPW to be like WWF" (which never made sense because it was really like AWA) King's Road vision of layout, and the Toryumon style of lucharesu but with heavies for the action.

Or maybe it's not that at all. I don't really care. My favorite active NJ Dojo grad might be YOSHI-HASHI.
