Posted February 1, 200619 yr comment_4424673 Why should I buy it? I can just imagine myself looking like a 30 year old jackass playing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" on a plastic guitar. Convince me this is worth my money.
February 1, 200619 yr comment_4425061 I think it's PS2 exclusive. I've played it quite abit, although only on easy. My pinky is pretty much incapable of hitting the blue key. It's fun though. Real songs but song by different people. Bark at the Moon, More than a Feeling and Cowboys from Hell are just a couple of songs on it. It is fun.
February 1, 200619 yr comment_4425149 GUITAR HERO IS AWESOME~!!! Let's put it this way. I hate all rhythm games. Well, hate is a strong word, but rhythm games are things I tend to avoid. However, Guitar Hero is pretty freaking rad and its a must buy (get the SG Controller, it's awesomely designed). I bought this because everyone who reviewed it sad it was fun and I figured I had 100 canadian to blow, so why not? I went immediately to the tutorial of the game and it starts off simple enough. Teaches you how to play with three fret keys, the whammy bar, pulls and pushes (<-not correct term, but what I call it) as well as power cords. Don't worry if you don't get the terms, the tutorial teaches you them and does it in a fashion of actually getting guitar lessons. From there you can either go into Quickplay which has very limited songs, as you can get more songs during Career mode. I skipped quickplay and went into Career mode. There you have 8 different types of guitarists, and basically they are "you" personafied. They do their type of style of playing and you can watch it (and mess up nailing the song). There's also a shop, but you have to play regular mode or above to access it. You'll start out in the basement with simple songs like "I Like Rock And Roll" which don't cause quite too much difficulty, and as you go farther into Career mode, the more songs you get to play. Now some songs you might scratch your head at like "Fat Lip", but each song gets progressively harder to play. Took me 20+ tries to get through "No One Knows" during the Toxic Tour. There's a basic pattern with songs so once you get it down, you'll have no sweat with it. During songs, you'll have a crowd meter that tells you how well you are doing. Green is Rocking, Yellow is ok, Red is bad, and blinking Red means you are dead if you don't correct the ship soon. Also, should you miss a note it won't play, and hitting the wrong note or timing wrong will make incorrect sound play. You also have Star Points that you collect that can be traded in for stuff with the shop I believe to deck your guitarist out. Also, it'll consume your soul if you own it. At least at first. I really wanna play it right now, but I gotta crank up the sound cause I like jamming away with it. That and its like 11:40 here and folks are asleep. All I would've liked more would've been some sort of freestyle mode that you could've saved and seen if the crowd liked it. That would've been neat. There's also a multiplayer mode in which you can challenge a friend to a battlethon. I'd rather do it with someone who has a SG though, cause it would be cool to see who could nail the song better so I haven't tried it to see what its like. Person with the better score and crowd reaction wins I believe.
February 1, 200619 yr comment_4425248 I find it's a lot easier to hit the select button than to point the guitar upwards to use your star power.
February 1, 200619 yr comment_4427498 Wha...? Select does the star power? Dammit, would've saved my chops so much on using it if I had known that sooner. I'm now on Medium or I should say normal mode. Its hard. Adding the one fret key makes the easy songs a little more difficult, and then they added a whole bunch of power cords to the songs. But I'll just rock it along, as I'm getting used to using my pinky to nail the blue fret key.
February 1, 200619 yr comment_4427863 So it's like DDR but with guitars instead of dancing. I fucking hate DDR. I pass.
February 1, 200619 yr comment_4429285 Same thing I thought, since I hate DDR. I was proven wrong with Guitar Hero. It's biggest flaw is that it costs like eighty bucks to buy the game and have the guitar come with it.
February 2, 200619 yr comment_4431680 So it's like DDR but with guitars instead of dancing. I fucking hate DDR. I pass. Trust me, its nothing like DDR. DDR is what it wishes to be. DDR is just mash some buttons and pretend you are dancing. With Guitar Hero, you ARE playing a song; assuming you make the insanely fucking hard Expert mode (having all the fret keys, the bells, the whistles, etc.). And I'll congradulate the bastard that can and pull it off well. Every fret key is where you'd locate your fingers to play the notes, so you can probably take what you learn from Guitar Hero and apply it to a real guitar and not do half bad. Sure, there's quite a few differences between the GH Guitar and a real one, but the GH Guitar gives you the guidelines to how its all done.
