February 3, 200619 yr comment_4441982 VQ on Southwest tends to range between VG+ and VG- for the most part, or at least that's what it was when I was skimming it. I'll be watching a lot of it this weekend for the SC project (ADONIS~!), so I'll be able to confirm then.
February 5, 200619 yr comment_4449611 Okay, just checked the Southwest discs and they're in the same VQ as the Mid South stuff purchased from Universal Wrestling. Seriously. Meaning the production values hurt the video quality a little bit because the arenas are dark, but this looks like either master footage or 1st gen footage at worst all the way through. That's the good news. The "bad" news (if you want to call it that) is that this isn't footage from Joe Blanchard's run on the USA Network, so guys like Adonis and Orton and Santana and Tully Blanchard aren't all that featured. Tully is, actually, but it's in his first year or two in the business, and Tito Santana is still being billed as Richard Blood (very strange -- since that's Steamboat's real name). This is more EARLY Von Erichs footage, Harley Race as NWA champ, Dory & Terry Funk, etc than a lot of the big names of the 80s. I would say 1975 at the earliest and 1981 at the absolute latest if I was guessing, but I'm not entirely sure. The good is that they don't clip matches, so everything airs complete. The bad is that the matches have zero heat, which may just be the production values again. I'm not really sure. Still, this is interesting footage you may want to pick up when you get a chance.
