This may sound silly to some but I'm not exactly sure on what a void cheque is.

 

I have a cheqning account (From Canada) but I still for the life of me don't know what a void cheque is. Even google's not helping me tonight. I have to write a void cheque and I'm not sure on how to do it.

 

And what are the advantages, disadvantages?, and diferences with void cheques when in comparison to a normal personal cheque?

It's just a check you write VOID on when you need to send a copy of a check to start direct deposit or stuff like that.

No, sek you're right that's what it is. It's so that whoever you give it to can set up direct deposit or withdrawl from your bank account. The line of numbers in the bottom left hand corner of the cheque give the accounting department the information they need. The reason you write VOID across the rest of it is so they can't just forge an amount and then try and cash it.

Basically, the company just needs you're routing number and bank account number, both of which are located at the bottom of the check. By writing VOID across it, you are prohibiting whoever from using that check for their own benefit.

Right. Where exactly do I write "Void" at on the cheque? Does it matter?

Put it in big letters across the entire front of the check.

If it's just for the numbers in the bottom left hand corner (I am setting up a system linked to my banking account) does that mean I shouldn't write an amount on it?

I assume any amount on the cheque once you write void on it doesn't mean anything even if it's yourself who writes an amount on the cheque.

Blank cheque. Write "VOID" across it in big letters. That's IT. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be, WP. Why on Earth would you write an amount on it if you're not actually writing a check?
