On the pilot episode of Mount Olympus, a new quarterly (or whenever they feel like it) wrestling history podcast, Kelly, Johnny and Pete discuss Sammartino: The Legend Lives, a recent collection added to the WWE Network. The boys look at old favorites, and some old less-than-favorites, while breaking down a selection of matches from the collection. In the end, this is a tribute to an amazing professional wrestler and a great time was had by all. Check it out!!!

 

Tune in for the Titans Reunion that splits the wrestling universe. Was the reason Ernie Ladd wasn't over during the Bruno match:

A. Pete's theory that Southern style wasn't getting over with the cosmopolitan NYC crowd.

B. Johnny's theory that the white crowd knew there was no way Bruno was losing the belt to a black guy.

This was a lot of fun. Kelly discovering star ratings was probably the highlight. I await the Debbie Harry episode.

Firstly, this is not necessarily Titans 2. Lineups will be fluid. Two or three people tops each show. At least that's how I envision it.

 

Second, get with the program Matt, I've been dropping snowflakes on the Place to Be Podcast for several months now.

 

Thirdly, yes Titans was the greatest podcast in wrestling history.

 

Fourthly, maybe we'll do a show about Harry, Kaufman, Warhol and Dr. J going to WWWF shows at MSG in the 70s and compare the wrestling scene to CBGB'S or something

I've had this on my phone for awhile, but I'm fiiinally getting around to listening to it on my commute back & forth for work.

Kelly - you mentioned being all in for hearing a Bruno shoot interview. I was just wondering if you've ever seen his RF shoot. I mean, yeah. It's RF, so the line of questions kind of sucks. But Bruno is SUCH a captivating storyteller that it doesn't really suffer too much. He goes in-depth on some interesting stuff. There's a deep dive into his childhood and early days of discovering weightlifting. He covers the broken neck and Vince Sr. approaching him about returning much sooner than expected to help boost ticket sales, etc.

It was obviously done before Bruno and the fed mended fences, so there's some negative stuff toward the end about his relationship with Vince Jr., but it doesn't dominate the interview or anything. I'd highly recommend it. By far one of the best RF releases, and it's all on the strength of Bruno's attention to detail and incredible recall on events, specific matches, opponents, etc.

Definitely worth checking out if you've never heard it. Bruno's timeline with Sean Oliver is out there, too. And it's outstanding, but it doesn't cover nearly as much ground. Both are worthwhile, but yeah. The RF one is worth seeking out for the stories of his childhood and early days alone.

Thanks for the recommendation. Lately I've been listening to the interviews Bruno did with Meltzer and Alvarez from 2009 and they're pretty interesting. Although, between those, the recent Jericho interview and the JBL interview, there are a ton of repeat stories told almost identically. One aspect I've been wanting to hear him cover more is how involved he was in booking his feuds over the years and just general discussion about putting together matches and programs. I know the story is amazing, but we've all heard the WW II saga a million times. More insight into his time as a star in the 60s and 70s would be great

I can't be the only one here who owned Debbie Harry records at one point?
