Posted April 8, 200520 yr comment_1605312 I was just thinking about bands who paired up some brothers and thought it would be interesting to see what you guys think about them. I'll leave Nelson of the list. Everly Brothers Isley Brothers The Kinks Creedence Clearwater Revival Allman Brothers AC/DC Van Halen Flock of Seagulls Oasis
April 8, 200520 yr comment_1611575 Everly Brothers - "Dream" is a GREAT song, but I don't really know anything else by them. Does their music transcend time? Not really, but it doesn't have to do so? There is some incredible harmonizing going on in that song, and I'd love to hear some more of their stuff. Isley Brothers - I've really liked what I've heard, but I need to hear a bigger selection before I can say one way or the other how I truly feel about it. The Kinks - They would be a top-grossing band if they were around today. Their music is the kind of stuff that doesn't really age at all, and would have fit in just as well in the "alternative" 90s era as it did in their own time period. I love "Lola". Creedence Clearwater Revival - I HATED them when I was younger, but I've grown to like them a lot as I've gotten older. Now I get why my parents loved them so much. Strangely, when I think of "Down On The Corner", I remember that playing when I peeked in the living room and saw my mom and stepdad sitting on the couch snorting coke, but that's neither here nor there. Allman Brothers - Another group I've only grown to appreciate recently. "Whippin' Post", "Melissa", "Ramblin' Man" ... all fantastic songs. I'm glad they're in the Hall of Fame -- they truly deserve it. My stepdad used to listen to them first thing in the morning, which was a little much, and may be why I didn't like them for so long. AC/DC - Outside of Back In Black, I've found them to be a singles-heavy band. I do like Highway To Hell, but it's not the classic that BIB is. "Back In Black" is one of the greatest hard rock songs of all time, maybe in the top five. Huge fan of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" as well. Is it true that AC/DC stands for "After Christ/Devil Comes" or was that just a stupid junior high rumor someone started? Van Halen - DLR-era is some amazing stuff. I fucking wanted to be David Lee Roth when I was that age. I consider them more of a pop band than a hard rock band, but there were hard rock elements there. Most of the music, however, consisted of cool covers and just having a good time. The Sammy Hagar era SUCKED, and I think "Right Now" was the only song I liked from that time period, and that was mainly only for the piano at the beginning. DLR is behind only Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger as my favorite frontman of all time. Flock Of Seagulls - Never heard anything from them besides "I Ran", but that's a great song, even if it's become such a stock compilation song that I've grown tired of it. Those hairdos will forever be remembered. Oasis - If I wanted to go see a Beatles cover band, I could get tickets for a much cheaper cost.
April 9, 200520 yr comment_1621843 I wanted to be fucking David Lee Roth when I was that age. edited for accuracy. Isley Brothers - i badly need to get more of their stuff, as these fuckers could ROCK. "shout" is the mother of all audience participation karaoke songs. The Kinks - i've only heard their most famous 3 songs. not a fair basis of judgment, but i do love what i've heard in a very basic, pure way. Creedence Clearwater Revival - great vocals, great overall sound. kind of a one-trick pony though. Allman Brothers - eh. lukewarm. AC/DC - i think these guys are seriously overrated. the riffs are hackneyed and don't particularly grab me, the overall sound is generic as hell, and i do not like the vocals. Van Halen - see above. Oasis If I wanted to go see a Beatles cover band, I could get tickets for a much cheaper cost.except a beatles cover band is still performing well-written songs, and oasis is not. and i can see why the ramones got left off, since we already did them, but what about gene & dean ween? does no one remember the greatness of the fictitious brothers ween?

April 13, 200520 yr Author comment_1680236 Everly Brothers - Until Hall & Oates, the Everly Bros. were the most successful duo of all time. I enjoy several of their hits inc. Bye Bye Love, Wake Up little Suzie, and Bird Dog. Completely deserving of their Hall of Fame status. Isley Brothers - Michael Bolton be damned because this is one of the most influential groups of all time. I own the anthology from their earlier soul stuff and their later funky period. If I had the money, I would hunt down some of their actual albums. The Kinks- These guys were alwasy overshadowed by the Super Trio of Briish bands (Beatles, Stones, Who) but they have some of the bets music I have ever heard. You want classic singles? They have them in droves. You want great albums? Preservation Soiety, Lola vs., etc. An awesome band that doesn't get nearly enough credit, pub, or enough people listening to thier stuff. Creedence Clearwater Revival- Useless fact: CCR have more songs to reach #2 than any other artist without ever going #1. They have some killer singles with the best being "Fortunate Son", "Who'll Stop the Rain", "Down on the Corner", and Run Through the Jungle". Allman Brothers- I have a hard time embracing these guys. I liek certain songs (like the ones Loss mentioned) but I am not impressed. I'll get to the others later. Gotta go to bed!!!
April 22, 200520 yr comment_1804758 Good thing I actually read some of these posts... when i saw "Brothers in Rock" i was like his other thread says "White Rappers" so this must be the antithesis... On that note... Splender: Great band, lead singer happens to be black. His mom is some famous R&B singer, all I know is for a band they're underrated. Radio Hits include: Monotone, Yeah whatever, Save it for later.... I'm not even sure if they're still making music. Chuck Berry: I'm not a huge fan of his and missed a free chance to see him at Franklin and Marshall but I know he's been an influence in Rock from the beginning. Known for Johnny B. Goode. Lajon: Lead singer of sevendust. I've only seen these guys in concert opening for creed so I didn't know what to think at the time. But I definitely like the style. Favorite song: Angel's Son That's all I'm awake enough to mention...
