This is Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling, not the AWA, but the title is on the line here in Charlotte NC. Only about 5 1/2 minutes of handheld footage.

Jim Brunzell has Nick Bockwinkel in the abdominal stretch, Bock grabs the middle rope and tosses Brunzell outside. Brunzell jumps back in, gets nailed with a big elbow and a huge kneelift. Bock runs across the ring with him and rams his head into the opposite turnbuckle, then repeats it to the other side. Bockwinkel whips him to the ropes, backdrops him for a one count, then whips him again and meets him with another big knee to the midsection for a two count. He bodyslams Brunzell twice for another two count, as the crowd chants "Go, Jim Go!!!" He whips him to the ropes again, but Brunzell rolls him up for a two count, Brunzell nails a shot to the gut. Bockwinkel runs the ropes so damn fast all the time!!! They collide mid-ring. Bockwinkel chokes Brunzell on the ropes twice and gets a two count. Brunzell returns the favor and the crowd goes wild, Bockwinkel flips down to the mat and Brunzell hits...a Hogan legdrop!!! The challenger bodyslams Bockwinkel for a two, then immediately hits the over the knee backbreaker for another two count. He whips Bockwinkel to the ropes and hits the Brunzell dropkick. He grabs a toehold and grinds Bockwinkel's knee into the mat. He takes the hamstring and flips Bockwinkel's leg over twice, into the spinning toehold, but Bockwinkel reaches up with a punch to the face. Bockwinkel punches Brunzell low in the breadbasket, Brunzell goes for a side headlock, but Bockwinkel shoves him into the referee, the ref goes down....and the footage ends...

I know the result is a DQ, but I'm not sure if this was the finish or if Brunzell gets the advantage or what... This was pretty decent, I am looking forward to seeing their other matches in 1981

There is a non-title match from Winnipeg that is relatively intact (JIP though), and 35 minutes of a 60 minute draw also from Winnipeg.

In the last year the entire 60 minute draw has surfaced which is a huge bonus, so look for that one instead of the clipped version if you can find it.

  • GSR changed the title to [1979-10-14-MACW-Charlotte, NC] Nick Bockwinkel vs Jim Brunzell
