Posted August 15, 20178 yr comment_5810741 Huge pop for the Ambrose and Rollins stuff this week. Amazing what some thought out weekly booking can do. Revitalised two stale characters, made the tag titles seem important and got a huge reaction. Hope they add Roman down the line
August 15, 20178 yr comment_5810754 Really fun go home ep of RAW. Surprised they hot shotted SS matches, but it made it a fun, exciting, unpredictable show......and left me more interested in the PPV than I was before. I think some of the results for the PPV were telegraphed though, and that would be my one complaint. It's like the hot shotting of matches was just 50-50 booking. I mean, Tozawa is only going to be champ for 6 days, right? It's like they wanted to keep the belt on Neville but wanted to throw Akira a bone. Good match anyway. Most of the stuff on the show was good. Wyatt winning clean was a pretty clear telegraph as well, but I expected Balor to be winning at SS anyway And now after Orton beating Jinder clean after Nak beat Cena clean I'm almost 100% Jinder beats Nakamura. That's just the way this company books stuff
August 15, 20178 yr comment_5810756 About Neville dropping the title to Tozawa tonight, if they were giving Tozawa the title anyway, as thrilled as I am for him, I feel like it would've been a bigger deal for him to win it at Summerslam than winning it on RAW. But perhaps of the possible time constraints with the overload of matches on Sunday, in hindsight, might have been better the way he did it. Supposing that Neville moves on to somebody else - which would be surprising given he's one notch over everyone else in that division -, who would be the next challenger for Tozawa?
August 15, 20178 yr comment_5810792 So, scenario: Ambrose and Rollins win the titles at SS. Huge pop, everybody loses their shit. Main event time, The new champs come in and destroy everybody but Reigns, helping him win the title. Instant face turn for Reigns becauee of the full return of Shield or instant heel turn for the other two because of aligning themselves with Reigns?
August 15, 20178 yr comment_5810793 Instant heel turn I'd suspect. Maybe in some places they'd get cheered but I don't see a Brooklyn SummerSlam crowd cheering Roman under any circumstances.
August 16, 20178 yr comment_5810811 Only caught the Smackdown main event but it was pretty good. They may have lost confidence in Corbin and are phasing him down, but his shoulder was definitely up at 2. That feels important.
August 16, 20178 yr comment_5810819 I don't think losing the cash-in is really going to hurt Corbin considering that it's probably going to be used as motivation for him to kick the shit out of Cena at SummerSlam. If he beats Cena that probably does more for him than some opportunistic MITB cash-in that's been done a dozen times already.
August 16, 20178 yr comment_5810823 I could also see them having .Corbin interfering in Jinder/Nak and destroying both guys thinking the main event four way will be so great and crowd pleasing that it will ease any fan backlash
August 16, 20178 yr comment_5810825 There needed to be a failed Cash in. Having every person win the title except Cena just made it too predictable. What WWE should have done was have Corbin win the title to defend at Summerslam against Cena but Nakamura complains because he has a legimate title shot so they turn it into a Triple Threat match. Cena/Corbin & Naka/Jinder matches seem so unappealing. Id probably preferred Naka/Cena to headline Summerslam instead where they never had the 1st match on Smackdown. Should have been saved for the PPV.
August 16, 20178 yr comment_5810868 Love the idea that Baron Corbin continues to struggle with school boy pins.
August 17, 20178 yr comment_5810894 So I'm away on vacation but saw through twitter / PWo that Corbin had quite the fitting cash in attempt and result. Best of luck in his future endeavors. I suppose its not his fault he was called up and pushed in such fashion, but not many recent pushes have been so ill fitted from the jump.
August 17, 20178 yr comment_5810909 I've been out of the loop for a little while, not sure what's up for SummerSlam. What's the card shaping up to be ?

Its a shame Creative, Vince, Stephanie or whoever booked it this way. I don't think Id be too happy if it was me that got screwed out of a World Title when others past years got a legimate shot at the title.
August 17, 20178 yr comment_5810923 If you are predicting the death of Corbin's career because of the failed cash-in prepare to be wrong. It's not like winning with it has made anyone a full time main eventer other than Edge. Edit: I forgot about CM Punk cashing in on Jeff Hardy and was only thinking of his first one against Orton so that makes two since 2005.

Not sure I'd call this an "Eric Escobar" situation just yet - for starters, after watching the clip, there's a few directions they can go and all of them bode pretty well for Corbin (at least theoretically). You could have Corbin complain that he had his shoulder up and whine about getting the briefcase back after SummerSlam. Seems like pretty easy heel heat fodder from an already unlikeable guy. You could have Corbin somehow cheat and beat Cena and shock the world. Its not the result I'm expecting at SummerSlam, but I wouldn't put it past the WWE to have Cena lose on an episode of SD soon after (maybe even in a MITB ladder match or something) to write Cena off of the Blue Brand as I believe the rumors about him heading to RAW are legit. You could have Corbin "spoil" the WWE Title match anyway, essentially playing the guy who says, "If you won't let me get another title match, then NOBODY gets another title match!" Even if they were to pull Corbin down a notch and have him feud with AJ Styles, I'd still not be so fast to write him off. I know the Andre Memorial Thing has 0 cred, but even before that, the guy had a slow-but-steady push in NXT that isn't vastly different than what's happened to him on the main roster.
August 17, 20178 yr Author comment_5810942 I've been out of the loop for a little while, not sure what's up for SummerSlam. What's the card shaping up to be ? Brock vs Braun vs Roman vs Joe for the Raw title Jinder vs Nak for the Smackdown title Ambrose/Rollins vs Sheamus/Cesaro for Raw tag titles AJ vs Owens w/Shane as ref Orton vs Rusev Cena vs Corbin Alexa vs Sasha Usos vs New Day Naomi vs Natalya Cass vs Big Show w/Enzo in a cage Thank that's about it
August 17, 20178 yr comment_5810951 They usually put the guys over in real matches that they see as real stars, and use cash-ins for the guys they see as the top of the middle, with occasional exceptions. Punk and Bryan both became real stars later, Sheamus was back where he started a few months later, Ziggler was probably worse off than he was before, Del Rio never took off at the level he was pushed ... Edge worked because Edge was first. Rollins worked because he got the lion's share of TV time for 8 months and was presented as the top heel for that entire time before the cash-in. Orton was already established. Sandow??
August 17, 20178 yr comment_5810952 While it got a big crowd response, the Swagger cash in felt really flat to me and like the low point of all the cash ins. I liked Swagger as a heel rival to Christian's ace run in ECW, but in the lead-up to the cash in, he was so far from a star as anyone who has cash in and won.
August 17, 20178 yr comment_5810954 The Swagger cash in basically killed the WHC as anything resembling an important belt. Not entirely Swagger's fault, just a lot of things going wrong all at once.
August 17, 20178 yr comment_5810958 Yeah Swagger was the first one of the recurring pattern where they gave it to a midcarder, jobbed him out with the case, he cashed in, then jobbed some more with the belt, and then they wondered why he didn't get over.
August 17, 20178 yr comment_5810961 I know the issues with the "Broken" trademark created problems, but it still seems crazy how much WWE has cooled the Hardys off.
