Anoaro Atisanoe is sort of a mystery to me, too--from what I can gather he was actually a New Japan dojo guy, their attempt to create another foreign monster from the ground up, though he usually wrestled with the natives. His brother is probably a lot more famous than he ever was.

I'm going to have to no longer sleep on phil hickerson after this weeks episode. I'd highly recommend the US stuff.

Without nitpicking, because I love the shows, but this is the 2nd time recently I've heard you guys claim Liz was supposed to come in as a heel manager ala a character from Dallas. I don't believe that was ever the intention. On the CHV, Savage already was the I-C Champ, but I don't believe Liz was playing heelish in the segment out by the pool. Even in her debut, Savage didn't hold the ropes for her, and Vince mentioned that. I believe Savage was always supposed to "talk down" to Liz and treat her poorly, with her being the sympathetic character. I love your podcast, but you're completely incorrect on this one.

I will grant you the talking down part but she didn't start playing up the sympathetic deal until the Steele feud started.

 

And she wasn't over the top heelish but she was definitely into Savage and gave the fans no reason to think she was sympathetic.

They did an angle in November of 85 where Elizabeth called out Hogan on the mic before a match against Rusty Brooks, saying he doesn't ever face suitable competition. It was on Championship Wrestling 11-9-85.

 

So it LOOKED like they might be doing a Dynasty/Dallas thing but it was the only time I ever saw Liz play that role. Rather baffling in retrospect that she's trash talking the champ, then is totally meek weeks later.

I actually watched the CHV Savage & Liz the other night and saw that angle again. (By the way, it reminded me on just how damn good that particular CHV was, as were most of them from that era. The Savage and Liz one was great though).

 

My interpretation of that was Savage made/forced Liz to go out and ask the question. She says, "Randy wants to know why you don't wrestle any...."

 

My take on the whole relationship from the beginning was that she was the abused hot chick in a bad relationship that didn't know she could get out. Kinda of a slice of Americana in the 1980s.

That you guys keep repeating the Nord talking point after the work Eric has done lately is disappointing.

 

Otherwise, another fun show. I enjoy it when you go this far back.
