Posted April 9, 200520 yr comment_1632976 I haven't seen RAW in forever and I don't watch Spike TV so I had no idea this show was on. I am flipping through the channels and I see the UFC equivalent of Tough Enough on marathon and I am liking this much more than any other reality show I have seen. So, has anyone else kept up with this or have any thoughts?
April 9, 200520 yr comment_1633238 I knew it existed but have yet to feel compelled to actually watch.
April 10, 200520 yr comment_1633780 I love the show. I think they have finally figured out a way to get UFC a more mainstream audience by letting people know the fighters and building storylines. The ratings for the show have been steady at around 1.7 with a jump to 2.0 the last week or two so they've been doing pretty well. It's sort of wierd watching the show because I'm so used to a pro wrestling mindset and these are real people. Chris Leben has gone from heel to sympathetic face to heroic face during the course of the show. Josh Koscheck took the opposite route. I really enjoy UFC and need to see more of it. I love the chess game played out in matches. It's not like boxing where all a guy has to do is watch out for punches to the ribs or head. In this a fighter has to watch out for kicks, punches, and takedowns and submissions on the ground whether they are in the mount or the guard. This show has demonstrated perfectly that a balance of talent is needed to succeed. Leben is a stand up puncher and was rather easily handled in a very boring fight against the wrestler Koshcheck. Koscheck got his face beaten bloody and purple by the best fighter on the show (a heelish, religious hispanic kid) Diego Sanchez. He won his first fight against a guy who's "dirty mouth" (the guy cursed a lot) he wanted to shut). Sanchez can throw, wrestle, and is a very good submission fighter. Tonight is the live finals and a Shamrock/Franklin fight on Spike at 9:00 pm.
April 10, 200520 yr comment_1634963 Diego forfeited his King Of The Cage belt to appear on the show, he's definitely competent in MMA.
April 10, 200520 yr Author comment_1635067 This Griffin-Bonner fight is fucking brutal. These guys are just beating the piss out of each other. I honestly didn't think I would see this kind of intensity because I thought they would be more tentative than they have been.
April 10, 200520 yr comment_1635170 This is a brutal fight, but I cannot help but think that a trained UFC professional would finish either of these guys off in less than a minute.
April 10, 200520 yr Author comment_1635668 Man, I haven't seen Ken Shamrock in years and he shrank!!!!
April 10, 200520 yr comment_1635754 I went to grab laundry and completely missed it. Shamrock is finished as a top fighter I would think.
April 10, 200520 yr comment_1639317 Yeah, it went to the ground a few times and then both fighters got back on their feet. Shamrock went for a kick, slipped and then the guy was all over him, peppering him with lefts and rights that mostly all landed hard and clean. The ref had to step in and stop it. The World's Most Dangerous Man? HA!
April 11, 200520 yr comment_1647145 Bonner/Griffin was the most amazing fight I've ever seen. As Al said they would both be killed by a competant wrestler. These two guys made the decision to stand and throw with only a few takedowns, that really served as rest holds. A good wrestler like a Sanchez, in the light heavyweaight division would take both of these guys out if they went into every fight this way. Either way UFC hit a homerun with this show, despite Shamrock embarrassing himself and the predictable desimation by Sanchez. I want to see Griffen/Bonner II and if they're smart it will be on the UFC 53. They need to capitalize on what they have now.
April 11, 200520 yr comment_1648543 Sanchez wants to drop to welterweight and face Karo "Heat" Parisyan. He may have more balls than sense considering Karo has some slick skills, especially kimura set ups. I think now they have established Bonnar/Griffin as real stand and trade guys, they may hold off until they have built their names up more rather than likely make one look bad yet again straight out of the gate. Mind you, the big guns like Tito, Couture or Lidell would likely handle these guys easily. Even Ian Freeman would probably serve them at this point in time.
April 12, 200520 yr Author comment_1663686 For those who missed it, they are showing the Ultimate Fighter replay tonight.
April 13, 200520 yr comment_1678511 The show did a 1.9 rating which is considered good because they didn't have Raw leading in to them. I hope they continue to do well.
