Anybody else sitting at their computer, glance down at the time and think, holy shit where did that last hour go?

Just did.

Watch out.  You don't want to get fired again.

Actually, depending on Telus and their job offer (and test I need to pass), I might wanna get fired again.

Ha! Dave posting in this thread reminded me of the SNKT days, when he told a funny story about him having sex for an hour and a minute, but only because it was time to move the clocks ahead an hour.

As much as I'd love to take credit for that joke, I stole it from somebody. I forget who, I think it was actually David Brenner.

Actually, depending on Telus and their job offer (and test I need to pass), I might wanna get fired again.

That's highly unfair. I've been out of work since January, had 10 interviews, and haven't been able to land ONE job...and you have one and you might take a second. How dare you.

:) Come to Canada my friend. We've got all sorts of employment opportunities. ...or so I'm finding 3 months after I put out my applications!

...I guess it would be really unfair to tell you that it would be at least 16$ an hour and health care covered for (medical, dental, eye, etc.).

Assuming I ace the test of course. I fail the test, I won't get the job. Then again, I aced it last time, and still wasn't hired on.

Yep, I am in Canada. I live about 30 minutes north-east of Toronto, in Durham Region.

To be fair, I am executing my job search in a very methodical pattern. My entire work experience is in Social Services, so I am searching in a pattern like:

1) Social Service Jobs within an easy drive from my home.

2) Social Service Jobs within a longer drive from my home. (In Toronto)

3) Private Sector Jobs within an easy drive from my home.

4) Private Sector Jobs within a longer drive from my home. (In Toronto)

5) General Labor Jobs within an easy drive from my home.

6) General Labor Jobs within a longer drive from my home. (Last resort.)

So far, since I have been out of work, I have sent out exactly 80 resumes. I have exhausted steps #1 and most of step #2. I have had 10 interviews, and one offer which was just not going to work for me. The money was low, and it was all being on the road, driving all over the province.

I am onto step #3 now.

I'm getting the whole "over qualified" response a lot lately, since I have my Master's Degree. I have no doubt that I'll find something if I stick to it...the law of averages is going to work out in my favor eventually...but the search is annoying. I hate getting all dressed up, going to an interview, putting on the whole dog and pony show, and then sitting by the phone waiting for people to call.

I've been out of work since January 10th...so it hasn't even been three months. I shouldn't bitch, but I started working full time when I was 19 so this is the longest I've ever been out of work in my life, I'm not used to it.

I'll keep at it.

Hope you pass that test and get on with Telus. :D

Dave *is* in Canada, ironically enough.

I assume everyone I meet is out of country. Saves me time and hassle.

That and he doesn't say, "eh" enough.

Oh that explains half the problems. Come to Alberta. There's like jobs all over the province.

That's a pretty good way of getting jobs. *copies it down for later usage*

Social Service jobs are hard to find, or so I've heard. You might need to do the dreaded "back to post-secondary" and try something else. Like I might be needing to do.

You do realize that half your problem is you wait for the people to call. Don't. Wait a few days, then just call back to check and see. Also, you do that, while the guy who attempted to hire you might pass you off because you are as you say "over qualified", they might pass you to someone who deems you just want they want. Just because of the determination.

BTW, the "over qualified" response is actually a bullshit response meant to say "we can't conform you to our ways, therefore we won't hire you". So this means in turn, you are never over qualified for a job. Just the assholes in charge can't mold you into what they want.

Personally, if you are getting that problem, I would try playing a little "dumb" or not totally in the "know". Ask a lot of questions that a newbie might ask, or someone who has experience but doesn't seem to totally know where they are going. This will give off the impression that you can still conform to how they want you to be.

I went through nearly a year without having work, and trust me, I know the feeling. I totally couldn't get used to the fact that I wasn't working for someone. Sure, you could say I worked at school, but not having a job was kinda interesting and at the same time also boring.

Hope you pass that test and get on with Telus.  :D

I can pass the test, I did the last time. I just wasn't hired for whatever reason.
