I'm rooting for Miami because Dwyane Wade is one of my favourite players and I'd love to see him win the NBA title. Plus Dirk recent form has people slightly overrating him, which makes me not like him, so I'd love for him to not win. I do think Dallas will win though. They delt with the Spurs and the Heat aren't better than the Spurs.

From NBA.com:

E-mail Raja Bell. He'll answer mail as long as the Suns remain in the playoffs.

If you didn't email him before today, you missed your chance.

"Q: Is Kobe Bryant the most difficult player in the league to guard?

--Danny, Inglewood, CA

Bell: He?s tough"

Such insight!

Dallas wins Game 1, despite an off-night from Dirk. Terry comes up big in the 4th to make up for it.

Miami shoots 7-19 from the foul line (36.8%), a record low for a Finals game. Nobody shot a FT on Miami other than Shaq or Wade. Wade was 6-10, and Shaq was *1-9*.

On the ESPN.com poll, "which team are you rooting for." 41 of 50 states are rooting for Miami. Only California, Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma, Michigan, Illinois, and (of course) Texas have more Dallas votes, and Nevada and Arkansas are even.

Since the (deserved) Wade praise and possible Dirk-bashing is inevitable, I just wanted to make sure it was acknowledged that Dirk would never have had to shoot those FTs if Shaq and Haslem weren't allowed to push off on every rebound and Wade wasn't allowed to hip-check Dallas's guards on the way up the floor for the last three minutes. That was way worse than the Dallas-SA stuff that everyone complained about.

That said, though, that was kind of a dumb play at the end of the game. They would have been just as well off throwing in and trying for a 3 and the win. There was a full second left.

On a lighter note, did anyone else notice Pat Riley after Michael McDonald sang the anthem. He went over to Derek Anderson and said "That's my boy."

(For those who don't know the story behind this, Riley apparently put on a dancing exhibition for the team at practice one day with the Doobie Brothers playing in the background.)

And Dallas gets jobbed again. Wade commits a backcourt violation and an offensive foul on the same play, then gets bailed out with a phantom foul. He shot as many FTs as the entire Dallas Mavericks team. But there's no conspiracy, we swear!

Please. It's been obvious for weeks that Stern was going to break his neck to get LeBron or Kobe or Wade a ring, and he's about to get his wish, along with you guys, it seems.

Just a total crock of shit.

Yeah, that was a bad play. Chris Webber is probably sitting at home saying "Wow, what a stupid time out."

But if they let the foul go like they should have, they don't need to use the time out.

On a lighter note, Avery's press conference was *gold*. He totally broke this guy down after he asked him what he thought of the last play.

Yep. TOTALLY phantom.

No foul was visible on video replays. So now we have evidence. Thanks for the pic, no need for the smartass comment.

Still, that could be the difference between the Mavs winning in 6, or the Heat winning in 6. Maybe fans of Dwyane Wade are OK with that, but I'd prefer if the players were allowed to decide who wins the championship.

I should reiterate that I don't have anything against the Heat or Dwyane Wade, though it probably seems like it in this series. The officiating has been consistently bad the entire playoffs, but it shouldn't be this much of a factor in the FINALS.

I did remark once at TSM that I didn't want to see the Heat make the Finals, but that was because I was tired of hearing everyone say how great they would be after getting Walker and Williams and Payton, and how they couldn't lose with all that talent. They proved me wrong, so good for them. It really wasn't anything against the Heat.

I only have one problem with Dwyane Wade, and that's that he's really getting into Kobe-like territories of thinking he gets fouled on EVERY play, and complaining to the referees. He still doesn't treat the referees like Kobe does, but it's still a little ridiculous. Other than that, I'm a huge fan of his game.

The beef I have is with David Stern, who seems more intent on finding "the next Jordan" rather than just letting the best team win. I realize there's a lot of business aspect, but at the same time, it's not pro wrestling.

From Dallas Morning News

"After every game, select players are brought to a media area to speak with reporters. After talking with media from Germany, Dirk Nowitzki was going to the media area but was told he had to wait until after Dwyane Wade and Gary Payton. "I'm not waiting for Gary Payton," Nowitzki said to a Mavericks public relations person. Nowitzki was then speaking with NBA public relations officials and was being asked to be patient."

I can see Dirk going Pedro in an interview with ESPN.

"Who is Gary Payton?"

The dreaded red X!

EDIT: OK, it works now. Amazingly Dirk wasn't punished for any of that, he received merely a 5K fine for kicking the ball into the stands. It hit some old man in the ear, I guess.

I still think Dallas can win. Dirk's well overdue to put up 40 or 50 on the Heat.

I think both Tim Duncan (Dirk trips over Duncan's feet, sends game into overtime) and Bruce Bowen (called for phantom foul at the end of the game) would completely agree with you.

Congrats to the Heat on their first title. No matter how much I've whined throughout this series, they still had to win one in Dallas, and they went out and did it. They deserve all the credit in the world.

Oh, and Jason Terry may kindly fuck off and die for costing me $20.
