Posted November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822324 Apparently Roman Reigns will be doing an open challenge type gimmick with the Intercontinental Title, which should be awesome. Hope it gives guys like Elias a chance to shine.
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822332 Well it looks like Matt Hardy is starting to become broken again. This was the closest we have gotten to his TNA character and right now it is really needed. Sucks that it could be wasted on a waste of space in Bray Wyatt
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822333 Ah, insane vs insane makes sense. And I loved that Elias/ Roman match.
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822335 Rollins vs. Cesaro was a pretty terrific TV match and Rollins's best singles outing in quite a long time. Roman/Elias was a different, also entertaining match and textbook Roman special where he puts over someone lower on the card throughout the match before picking up the win. I also really liked that both matches had clean finishes and set up upcoming TV programs with Rollins & Ambrose vs Sheamus & Cesaro and Roman vs. Joe. I've got no use for this Kane nonsense, but two matches like the above and some mostly harmless filler (save the godawful Bray stuff) make me a satisfied consumer of televised wrestling.
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822336 Kane begging off was cool. I cant think of anytime Ive seen that before.
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822339 Give Elias a 3 month IC title run. Elias' stuff is usually corny-good and not corny-bad (see Wyatt, Bray). I couldn't tell if the Bo and Curtis' parts were piped in or not, which makes the segment tops in my book. Just good stuff all around and the Roman match right after was a nice cherry on the sundae.

November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822366 Has there ever been a wrestler more over-pushed than Kane? His storyline brother?
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822367 Has there ever been a wrestler more over-pushed than Kane? His storyline brother? I always got the impression that Taker was a more credible attraction and when guys lost feuds to him, it seemed more like an inevitability than a straight-up heat killer like Kane. I've also always thought Taker was a better wrestler even if he wasn't great.
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822372 I don't disagree with any of that. It's just that when I look the modern era, the four biggest stars have been Austin, Hogan, Rock, and Cena while the most pushed guys have been HHH, Undertaker, and Michaels. Each person in the latter group brings some positives, but relative to their value, they have been pushed pretty hard. I realize this is a bigger conversation than this thread, and I wish I had the energy to flesh that out a little more. I just wanted you to understand what I meant.
November 28, 20177 yr Author comment_5822379 I'd love to see that discussion expanded in a thread some time. Although Taker was always heavily pushed and protected, I'm not sure that he was ever pushed above his overness in the way that HHH and HBK arguably were quite a bit. Crowds were always into him I thought.
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822380 With Taker the gimmick always had legs, corny as they might have been. From the original Grim Reaper to the evil cult leader of the Attitude Era, the we'll-pretend-this-never-happened Biker era, into the WWE Legend Taker era there's always been some substance there. Kane as a character has never really gone too far past "Taker's presumed dead brother who was burned for a while then wasn't". It was like the took one of Hogan's villians of the month from the 80s and made a 20+ year run with it.
November 28, 20177 yr comment_5822381 If the fans are determined not to accept Roman Reigns, WWE ought to take advantage and use it to potentially elevate Elias. A Roman/Elias title feud, with Shield vs. Elias/Dallas/Axel matches.

November 28, 20177 yr Author comment_5822391 There were also "we want Roman" chants during the Elias promo and "Roman" chants when he was fighting out of the chinlock.
November 29, 20177 yr comment_5822396 Roman, just like Cena, will be cheered as long as he's not being pushed as the main focal point of the company and out of title contention. The minute they start ramping back up for the Lesnar Mania match it will be right back to square one. The most hilarious timeline will be if the recent cheers convince the company they can get away with having Roman win the Rumble in Philly and be surprised at the outcome that will invaribly result from it.
November 29, 20177 yr Author comment_5822398 I actually think they might build to title vs title at Mania instead and put a Smackdown guy over at the Rumble. The way they've been hyping the prestige of the IC title and pimping Roman as a grand slam winner, fighting champion etc. makes me feel like they're laying the groundwork for him calling out Brock for not defending his title and saying he's the true top champion and so on.

Crowds were always into him I thought. I think you could make the case that until late 95/96 Shawn was *underpushed* in relation to how over he was. Obviously he was pushed strong from 96-98 and I would definitely agree there were lots of times he was pushed too strong post comeback. I always thought he should haven working with more undercard guys in those 8 years post back injury

It sounded to me like Elias got a much bigger reaction, especially during the promo when he was calling Roman out. But, I only caught snippets of the actual match, since I was working. So, I'll take your word for it, if you say the crowd was much more for him.
November 29, 20177 yr comment_5822418 They even went along with the roar thing he does pre-spear. I loved that match.
