For Victator another of my favorite British wrestling matches. Hyper intense match that will surprise you in a lot of ways.

Bobo Brazil vs Giant Baba

Really liked this. First, I love circa 1970 Japanese crowds. I loved how gritty this was. Both guys were struggling to get to their feet after everything and a lot of transitions come from the fighting on the way up. I bit on Baba's dropkick, great false finish. Baba moving his head while he's up against the ropes to avoid headbutts and Brazil finding the right angle to hit it again were such awesome little details. Bobo is really limited but Baba makes incredible use of what he can do. Baba putting Bobo's throat across his knee and chopping the back of his head was something else. I loved that neither guy was really athletic enough to throw in something smooth and pretty. It would have taken away from the match.

Dawho I will get to you.

Matt gave me One Man Gang vs Jumbo Tsuruta

Gang starts off on the offensive immediately. Which is a bit different than an American match, but I have to keep remembering Japan does not have a traditional face/heel dynamic.

Gang is probably the best next to Andre himself at maximising his size and making his every move count. So everything he does to Jumbo has huge effect.

At some point Jumbo gets on offense and has a sorta heel in peril. But it is logical he would go for Gang's legs. But watching Gang fight from underneath is not the most exciting stuff, but Gang works hard to make it exciting.

Eventually Gang gets back up and they are clashing for control. They do a really good vertical suplex spot. At this point Jumbo starts eating Gang up. These things might fall apart if the heel struggled. But Gang gives Jumbo what he wants and bumps and sells big on everything.

It ends with Gang counted out and bleeding since it is 80s All Japan. Very good match and the fans love it.

Victor had me watch

Shinya Hashimoto vs Masato Tanaka (Zero One Truth Century Creation 03/02/02)
I liked it. Of heavily regarded wrestlers pre-2010, Hashimoto is a guy that I've seen far less of than I should have (Tamura/Takada are up there for others). That said, this was primal, in as you know what each guy is coming in, and Tanaka sets the pace immediately by taking/kicking Hashimoto's belt. Boy, is the dead crowd on the Roaring Elbow ever a match-killer though. Still, I enjoyed it.
We had some flooding in my parts over the weekend and ensuing damage to the house and that's set me back. I'll likely re-roll tomorrow. Anyone on/off/etc.?

HeadCheese, you're the odd man out this week on the random draw. Someone may want to double up though?
fxnj, did you see this when it popped up in March? The match itself, after the pageantry, is ~10 minutes but you talked a lot about "struggle" in the last week or two and this was a match which I thought had a ton of it even if it's not quite what you meant.

Ok, tenor in the room is that we're going to take this week off. That gives everyone another week to pick matches (if not already done) and watch/review them (I'm still working on mine though it's way more heated than I was expecting, a nice surprise). I'm wondering if we might not have a bit of fatigue here in general after having done this for half a year steadily. In general we've probably reviewed well over 200 matches which is pretty impressive, and everyone got to stretch a bit. So I'm giving it a week and we'll see where we are next Tuesday or so.

http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/21780-jun-akiyama-vs-masao-inoue-noah-spring-navigation-042306/ - Akiyama vs Inoue feels like the sort of match everyone on the board should watch and have an opinion on, one way or the other.

Glad you liked it. And I agree that's a match everyone should check out, for the sheer uniqueness value atleast.
