Posted January 3, 20187 yr comment_5826473 Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre has made it an annual tradition to present Sin Piedad on January 1st, typically having a standard tag card with a hair match in the main event. This year's was no different. Following a lackluster undercard the Trump supporting, golden-haired, all American Sam Adonis took on lucha libre veteran Negro Casas. Adonis has been a solid hand over the last year for CMLL drawing major heat from the Mexican audience but has yet to really shine as an in-ring talent, typically cheating to take the easy win. Casas is an absolute legend of lucha libre and was an outstanding worker in his prime but he's nearing 58 now. Going into this match, my expectations were not particularly high and the prior matches had lowered them even more but I was pleasantly surprised by how great this match ended up being. An early MOTY contender for CMLL and lucha in general, both performers really gave it there all. This was a star-making performance for Adonis and further proof that Negro Casas can still bring it, no matter his age. **** This match can be viewed for free on CMLL's official YouTube channel and is absolutely worth your time.
January 3, 20187 yr comment_5826518 I might be an outlier but I thought this was rather subdued. While Adonis had some nice shtick, and the match had good ideas, it all felt a little too by-the-numbers in execution and lost my interest at certain points.

Fundamentally sound and entertaining but I kept wanting it to shift into another gear and not only did that not happen, but the finish felt rather anti-climactic. **3/4
January 5, 20187 yr comment_5826786 I don't think this'll be anything like a MOTYC for me but it was quite good and a fitting conclusion to this feud. Negro doing all the little things he does well, like really selling the sleeper/choke distinction, always makes me so happy. ***3/4
January 9, 20187 yr comment_5827316 Sam Adonis has a rather creative character and look and I admire his dedication to trying something different with his pro-Trump character. He also hits a gorgeous 450 splash, one of the better ones I've seen in a while. Negro seems like he's phoning it in, but I have to tip my hat to anyone in their late 50's leaping from the top rope for the sake of our entertainment. Decent enough, there's just nothing overly special about this. ★★¾
