Posted May 30, 200619 yr comment_5003761 As I mentioned before, I picked up a used GBA recently and I also picked up Fire Pro Wrestling for it as well. I finally understood what all the fuss was, as it was the first time I was able to play a Fire Pro game in it's natural habitat instead of on a PC. Since most of us here are wrestling fans, I thought I'd ask what everyone's favorite games are. I'm breaking my choices down by era, as it wouldn't be fair to rank a NES game with a PS2 game. 8 bit Era: Begins and ends with Techmo World Wrestling. WWF and WCW games of this era were crap. World Championship Wrestling was just a port of a Japanese wrestling game, although it was funny to see them try to pass off Andre the Giant in the Giant Machine mask (the boss in the Japanese game) as the "WCW Master". 16 bit Era: This is where the legend of the Fire Pro series was born, as the Super Fire Pro game are still considered by some as the best wrestling games ever. 32/64 bit Era: (Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64) WWF Steel Cage Challenge on the Sega CD was the first game from the Big Two that actually resembled what you saw on TV every week. Fire Pro 6 Man Scramble is generally considered the best of the Fire Pro games, but it was only released on the Saturn so not many people in the US got to play it other than the diehards. For most people, the defining game of this era was No Mercy for the N64. After a series of Acclaim games with almost unplayably bad control, the famed AKI system ushered in a new approach to pro wrestling video games. Current Era: (PS1/2, Gamecube, XBox) The Smackdown series for the PS units and Raw vs Smackdown for the XBox seem to be the most regarded games today, but I personally never cared for the Yukes control system used in most of the Smackdown series. The Wrestlemania games for GameCube use a style fairly similar to the AKI system, which makes them my favorite games.
May 30, 200619 yr comment_5004566 I'm expecting a lot of people to say "No Mercy" for the Nintendo 64. I'm still partial to "Pro Wrestling" on the old NES system myself, but I never played No Mercy.
May 30, 200619 yr comment_5004976 Arcade: 1) WWF Wrestlefest 2) Saturday Night Slam Masters 3) The Main Event 4) WWF Royal Rumble
May 30, 200619 yr Author comment_5005119 It's ironic that No Mercy became the standard of all n64 wrestling games when Virtual Pro Wresting 1 introduced the AKI system and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 actually had some features scaled back/removed when it was translated into No Mercy in the US.
May 30, 200619 yr comment_5005267 VPW2, hands down. I haven't played any of the Fire Pro games, though.
June 4, 200619 yr comment_5025096 Anyone who has played VPW2 will not have No Mercy on thier list. ... No Mercy.
