Kelly Bundy - Married With Children - I thought she was funny before they made her a complete moron. In the first few seasons she was just stupid, kind of like Homer Simpson.

Karen Walker - Will And Grace - Never seen the show.

Theo Huxtable - The Cosby Show - The only thing I remember about him is that stupid rat tail he had for a while.

Darlene Connor - Roseanne - Annoying, I never liked the show or the characters.

Screech Powers - Saved By The Bell - I liked the show but always thought Screech was more annoying than funny.

Elaine - Seinfeld - She was nothing special, Kramer carried that show.

Wilson - Home Improvement - He served his purpose well as beign Tim's conscience.

Mr. Burns - The Simpsons - Excellant. Mr. Burns always dracked me up.

Jan Brady - The Brady Bunch - I'd fuck her.

Niles - Frazier - Never watched the show.

Kelly Bundy - Married With Children: So hot back then. She's probably played the dumb blonde role as well or better than anyone else. She took a one-note character and kept her consistent and fresh for most of the series' long run.

Karen Walker - Will And Grace: Don't like the show, so I can't comment.

Theo Huxtable - The Cosby Show: I liked the show, but outside of Bill and the girl when she was still young and cute, Theo was the only one I really enjoyed. But even then, I didn't really get too behind him. It's a show I can always watch, but aside from Bill, I never really got too into anyone else.

Darlene Connor - Roseanne: I like the show. Sue me (no don't really). I thought it was one of the most unique shows the big three had to offer during the era. Until the show became crap the final season, it was usually all good. Darlene's bitchy and sarcastic attitude was always part of that reason. Totally believable as Roseanne's kid.

Screech Powers - Saved By The Bell: The only one to consistently deliver genuine laughs on an otherwise corny and trite show.

Elaine - Seinfeld: I wish more women were like her. She had her bitchy side, but as the series showed, she could be that girl you just shoot the shit with. No drama, no sexual tension. Just one of the guys. But man, she was smoking hot those last few seasons. The handful of crazy outbursts she had during the show's run always reminded me of my mom going loco.

Wilson - Home Improvement: He was the glue of the series. Without him, Tim never sees the errors of his ways and instead, we've got Tim blowing something up and making Jill mad every episode. Wilson made it possible for them to even reconcile before the next fight. Had to love the ways they hid his face, too.

Mr. Burns - The Simpsons: I love what they did with his character. Look at older episodes and he's just this mean, almost scary boss that's funny, but a little stiff. They may have made him too out there in recent years, but he's one of the supporting characters that is always delivering the goods.

Jan Brady - The Brady Bunch: I dunno. I hated all of the Brady kids. And Mike. And Carol. And Alice. And the dog. And that stupid doll that belonged to Cindy.

Niles - Frazier: Couldn't ever get into Fraiser, which is weird since it's my type of humor. None of the characters ever did anything for me, though.

Kelly Bundy - Married With Children-Christina Applegate made the character, she had a great dead pan and had some funny lines. Character became too dumb near the end where it wasn't believable anymore.

Karen Walker - Will And Grace- don't watch the show, can't comment

Theo Huxtable - The Cosby Show-always liked the character, played the dumb teenage kid part really well, Theo becoming a "responsible" adult towards the end was kinda lame, I thought he was the second best character on the show during it's initial years

Darlene Connor - Roseanne- became better as the show went on, went from a Tomboy who liked sports to a bitchy hippie liberal type, I didn't think she was laugh out loud funny or anything and sometimes her bitchy attitude was annoying. The way she treated David was not believable in my opinion, no guy would be that much of a pussy, even Dan fought back against Roseanne, always liked Becky better.

Screech Powers - Saved By The Bell- it's weird, I loved SBTB as a kid, but I never saw it as funny or anything, I just liked the show for what it was. Screech had a couple of good lines once in a while, but I actually liked episodes where he was more serious and human, such as him standing up to Zack for kissing Lisa.

Elaine - Seinfeld- as Bruiser said, she was ridiculously hot in the last 3 or 4 seasons of the show. Her character started of as a responsible, sexy businesswoman who had a thriving career and dated a lot, and turned into a pathetic mess like George and Jerry. It was great how she deteriorated into what Jerry and George were. She became like them through osmosis. I never liked it when the main plot was around her, she played off better with the other 3

Wilson - Home Improvement-I HATED the Wilson character, not funny at all, just boring boring stuff. HI had the same formula and I never liked how they used Wilson to solve the problems. Worst part of the show IMO

Mr. Burns - The Simpsons-Awesome stuff, voiced and played brilliantly by Harry Shearer, great lines, great character, one of the best over the top characters in history.

Jan Brady - The Brady Bunch-never thought much of her, she was like the whipping girl of the show, every accident and problem seemed to happen to Jan. Corny dialogue and plots usually revolved around her.

Niles - Frazier-could never get into Frasier. It was well written, but it was too dry IMO. David Hyde Pierce is a great comic actor but I never cared for this chracter. The Frasier from Cheers was a much better character.Niles is supposed to be a more prissy version of Frasier, so they had to make Frasier a lot prissier than he was on Cheers, and it hurt the show.

Kelly Bundy - Married With Children - I still think she remains the best dumb blonde in the history of dumb blondes. Christina Applegate's underrated acting totally made that role. She knew what she was doing, even from a young age. I always thought that role would elevate her to Diaz or Roberts-level stardom, but she seems content taking supporting roles in movies, in which almost every case she outshines the rest of the cast. I'm a huge fan of hers, and there's no reason she shouldn't be one of the biggest names in Hollywood. She's far more talented than many of her peers.

Kelly and one of her hot friends had my personal favorite exchange ever on that show in the latter years:

Regarding their 10-year reunion:

"There are people coming from foreign countries, like Indiana."

"Indonesians are coming?"

"Yeah, we better polish up on our Spanish."

Karen Walker - Will And Grace - She's not a totally original character, as she's basically Suzanne Sugarbaker with the volume turned all the way up, but she's the best performer on the show, and the sole reason I continue to watch. Whenever W&G ends, which honestly I hope happens soon, I do have hope that she'll have her own spinoff. I think it would actually be more successful than the original show.

Theo Huxtable - The Cosby Show - Of all the Cosby kids, this one and Vanessa were my two favorites -- Vanessa because she tried to be so sneaky but couldn't help but be totally obvious, and Theo because he was the epitome of a teen dreamer. The very first episode is probably one of my favorite episodes of the entire series, with Cliff talking to him about his future. You always knew he'd grow up and be a good person, because the family picked on him constantly, but he turned out quite well.

Darlene Connor - Roseanne - Call me crazy, but I don't think there's ever been a more layered sitcom character than Darlene. The transformation from tomboy jock to sarcastic hippy was seamless. Dropping out of nearly everything when she hit her teens, going through a depression, coming out of it but being entirely different ... it was all very real, both in script and in execution, and the *only* thing I liked about the last season of Roseanne was the exchange Roseanne and Darlene had when she had her baby. It's funny that the believability of her being coupled with David is mentioned, since it was revealed in the final episode that she was actually with Mark and David and Becky were together, but that Roseanne liked them better the other way. God, that last season was a mess, but the Darlene character was handled brilliantly from start to finish.

Screech Powers - Saved By The Bell - I always felt sorry for him. Had SBTB been a modern drama, Screech would have been the kid who shot up the school because of his love for Lisa. That episode where he finally stands up for himself is terrific, and Lisa was such an unapologetic bitch to him for so long, and I would have liked to have seen more resolution there. His character was just beaten and beaten and never really got anything resembling redemption, but .... OMG, I'm analyzing the character development on Saved By The Bell. Lord help me!

Elaine - Seinfeld - I preferred her to Kramer by a country mile. Kramer was just far too over-the-top and he frustrated me too much. Elaine was much more realistic, and she's AWESOME in the masturbation episode. Another favorite Seinfeld episode was the one where she was dating the guy who thought she was Mexican and she thought he was black, but they were both white. She's responsible for one of my favorite quotes from the series.

"You're white? Do you wanna go to The Gap?"

The whole spare-a-square thing was also classic.

Wilson - Home Improvement - The most interesting person on the show, really. I might even say he was the only interesting person on the show, but they did a good job with JTT as the show progressed, and I liked Tim's wife, but I think Wilson was my favorite.

Mr. Burns - The Simpsons - I'll always have a special place in my heart for Ralph Wiggum, but Mr. Burns is my favorite supporting character on the show easily.

Jan Brady - The Brady Bunch - There's some very interesting subtext about the way Jan was constantly ignored by the family during the original series that I think was nicely played up in both movies later on.

Niles - Frazier[/b] - Great performing actor, but I didn't always like the way Niles was written. I hated how he was made to seem delusional because he didn't notice that Daffney was putting on weight. He loved her unconditionally; what was so wrong with that?

Agreed, I think Christina Applegate is a criminally underrated comedic actress, excellent timing and had a great deadpan. Unfortunetely, her first starring role in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, was a total and utter bomb, and she never really got another chance. One of the best comedic actresses in the past 25-30 years and maybe the top one of her generation. She's finding a lot of work these days, which I think is great.

I've said this before, the last season of Roseanne was a slap in the face to the show's loyal fan base, it was that bad. It was supposed to be mirroring Roseanne's real life journey from rags to Riches, but the people didn't want to see that, they didn't care that Roseanne was rich in real life, they liked the middle class, hard working Roseanne. I don't want to get started on how the show wound up being a short story written by Roseanne or whatever.

comment_1686457

The series finale was a slap in the face, too, and an unnecessary down note to end the show on.

comment_1687022

It's too bad that Roseanne (the woman) was given the creative liberty to completely tank the show in it's last season. Had it not been for that last season, the show would definitely be more highly regarded in retrospect.

comment_1701392

Definitely. The final season is what a lot of people remember when they think back to the series. I never hated any of the shows until that season. Watching the episodes in syndication for the first time, I was open to the idea of them having money. The way it played out, though, was so over-the-top and a smack in the face to faithful viewers who had spent the last seven or eight years loving the epitome of a blue-collar family on their TV sets.

comment_1709549

yes, the Conners getting rich was Roseanne's idea. Her theory was that since the show was essentially about her life, that it should include the Conner family becoming wealthy, because that's what happened to her in real life.

For another example look to Drew Carey. The show started off about a hard working middle class guy and his reactions to the madness surrounding him. It was about drinking beer and having fun with your buddies after busting your ass all day at work. But then Drew got it in his mind, that since, once again, the show was really a mirror of his real life, that the format should change. Then all of a sudden, he's making out with hot blondes every week and banging ever big chested girl in site. It was not believable, even if it was happening to Drew in real life. People just didn't buy it and the show died as a result. The death of these 2 shows basically came down to the massive egos of the stars.

comment_1720428

I always thought The Drew Carey Show was mediocre with a few bright spots here and there. It got unbearable at the end, though.

Carey and Roseanne both screwed up on the same thing. They missed that their respective shows were hits because they were something different and portrayed characters and situations that the common viewer could indentify with. White trash becoming rich trash and fat dork with glasses becoming fat nerd with glasses and beautiful women weren't transitions that the viewers could exactly relate to.
