Posted July 15, 200619 yr comment_5201275 I'm sure some of you have to been to some shows this summer, so speak up. I still have a Counting Crows show on the horizon I'm not terribly excited about in Atlantic City, but I'm sure it'll be a good show and they at least have two songs I like. Hopefully, they do both of them. Ahh, the things we do for love. I saw Madonna Wednesday night at the Wachovia Center in Philly and was pretty damned blown away. Yeah, her voice sounds pretty shitty at times live, and yeah, there is an err of pretense surrounding the show, but I'll be damned if no one else comes even close to doing such a huge-scale PRODUCTION as Madonna does in concert, and for $175 a ticket, you expect that much at least. Three Jumbotrons on stage, all probably about twice the size of the Titantron, 5-6 set changes, 5-6 costume changes ... just a major, major undertaking anyway you slice it, and you can't help but have a good time and be wowed by the special effects, strobe lights, balloons, confetti, horses and general circus-like atmosphere of the show. Even between songs when she's doing costume changes, you get shit like this, and this is the best balance of any show she's done between her and the classics. But yeah, hell of a way to make 2 hours seem like 15 minutes. Who else has the nerve to pull this off?
July 16, 200619 yr comment_5205167 So far, I've been to Ottawa Bluesfest (although it feels less bluesy each year) and that's been about it. Good bunch of concerts including Great Big Sea, Sam Roberts, Blue Rodeo, Live, and Kathleen Edwards.
July 16, 200619 yr comment_5205993 I saw the Dillinger Escape Plan during the last week of June. They played at a small club in DC called the Black Cat for $15 and it was the best $15 I've probably ever spent. 50 minutes of violence, firebreathing, and crazy heavy music. Best concert experience I've ever had and was totally worth seeing considering the travel to and from DC was horrible, due to flooding. I don't plan on going to any other shows this summer.
