August 17, 200619 yr comment_5353490 Can't say I've ever seen Dane Cook perform his standup act. It doesn't really matter who the host is if the writing sucks though.
August 17, 200619 yr comment_5353517 Well Tina Fey is gone this year, so the SNL haters will have to find a new whipping person. In fact, Lorne mentioned NBC cut their budget for this season (he said it happens every so often and NBC is in the shitter ratings wise) so it'll be interesting to see how many people avoid the ax.
August 18, 200619 yr comment_5356871 I think Dane Cook is a good performer however most of his material lacks originality. Plus at times he is borderling annoying (i.e. whenever he does that terrible lispy voice).

I think the problem with Tina is that her ego went out of control. She used her power to get her friends jobs (Convincing Lorne to give Amy Poehler update when it's totally against her style of comedy, Rachel Dratch being all over the show, Lohan becoming a friend of the show) I'm interested in seeing if the writing style will change with Tina gone. Under her reign, the writing was more "cute" than most SNL years. Plus you can only tell so many jokes about the vagina. Id like to see the show go towards a random/absurd style of humor but I don't think Lorne will ever really go full throttle in that direction
August 18, 200619 yr comment_5359955 Cook's energetic style has unfairly made him a sophomoric comedian in the eyes of many. He sits on the fence of such comedy at times, but if you go through any large body of his work, he proves to be a creative and witty asset to stand-up comedy. I've always found his strength to be having an abundence of material that John Q. Public can relate without dumbing it down. His ability to use an expansive and varied vocabulary also puts him a cut above the rest.

Tina Fey, Horatio Sanz, Rachel Dratch, Finesse Mitchell, Chris Parnell and I believe Maya Rudolph are all gone
August 19, 200619 yr comment_5362511 I seriously thought Horatio would be on the show until NBC security dragged him out of 30 Rock kicking and screaming. I was convinced he had naked photos of Lorne with farm animals, nothing else explains why he was on the show for so long despite only being funny .00000000000001% of the time.
August 19, 200619 yr comment_5362645 I had the same theory. I also think Darrell Hammond has said pictures as well.
August 27, 200619 yr comment_5399260 I had the same theory. I also think Darrell Hammond has said pictures as well. Darrell can at least point to the Bill Clinton stuff and the Jesse Jackson impression as proof that he can be funny on his own. Horatio's only purpose was to be the token fat guy and the person Jimmy Fallon would always break character by laughing at. His attempts to get over after Jimmy left were beyond horrible. SNL desparately needs some fresh blood on their writing staff, which is second only to WWE in terms of being completely out of any new ideas or concepts. It's embarrassing in 2006 they still can't write for more than one black cast member at a time (hence the "Other Black Guy" role SNL itself even made fun of) or run a character into the ground the moment it starts to catch on.
