Posted November 16, 200619 yr comment_5414212 Saw a clip on the Daily Show where Bill O'Reilly is starting up the annual "War on Christmas" BS again this year. Is it really that offensive to acknowledge that there's other major holidays in December besides Christmas? Is it that horrible to acknowledge that just maybe not everyone celebrates Christmas? All the "I'm not shopping at your store because you said "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas"" stuff just means that customer service people like me are on eggshells till January since you never know what's going to set some people off.
November 16, 200619 yr comment_5414213 Like I said in that thread in Gen. Chat, I have no problem with who celebrates what, but when people are outright discouraged from expressing their partiality to Christmas, like at my high school a few years back, but the people that celebrate other holidays can say and do whatever the hell they want for it, that's just flatout wrong. Some people, unfortunately, are just as afraid of others being reminded about Christmas as others are of being reminded of Chanukah (sp?), Ramadan, etc.
November 16, 200619 yr Author comment_5414222 My main concern is that not enough folks see it for the distraction technique it is rather than an actual problem.
November 16, 200619 yr comment_5414228 I'm with David Letterman on the issue. I don't think these people that are out to destroy Christmas are real.

Fuck it, this year I'm saying nothing. I work next to a town with a lot of Jewish people anyways, so you never know who celebrates what and all that shit. And to be honest, from my own personal perspective, I don't celebrate anything, so I don't need someone even wishing me a Happy Holiday, unless they are talking about New Years.
November 22, 200619 yr comment_5414324 Last year I was in support of such new terms as Holiday Tree. For the past few years, the major gift giving day for me was December 26. The 25th had no significance at all. This year, I'm leaning more towards celebrating Christmas. Though, I'm sure once all the war on Christmas gets out of hand, I'll probably go back to not celebrating Christmas. It's kind of tough for me. On one hand, I am a traditionalist who hates change. On the other, Christmas has turned into such a sham. It's history is a downright disgusting display of human behaviour. If Christmas was returned to a Christian holiday, it would make me very happy since none of this modern mess would be a problem. (Or it would be much less of a problem.) Undo the mistake the Germans made of combining Santa Clause and Jesus Christ. Then everyone can enjoy December 2nd.
November 22, 200619 yr comment_5414337 Yeah, fuck Christmas! Let's go celebrate Saturnalia, get drunk and have gay orgies.

December 15, 200619 yr comment_5414973 You know, at one point I agreed that the so called "War On Christmas" was nothing more than a few nuts, and wasn't a big enough deal to make into a serious issue. However, this year in Canada we seem to be getting more and more people jumping on the bandwagon...the latest example is a judge. Click here for the story.

The list of things that could offend me or alienate me could become quite long. I think that this judge used very poor judgement. If the new standard is that "someone may be offended", our society is in big trouble. I find his intolerance to be offensive, will someone please remove him?

December 21, 200618 yr comment_5415049 I just wait for people to say one or the other and give them the greeting they give me. Now how about a working link for that story?
December 22, 200618 yr Author comment_5415053 The whole Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas thing doesn't seem to have gained as much traction this year. The only thing I've even heard about the winter holidays is someone in line in front of me asking at the Post Office what the Eid stamps were for. Needless to say it was quite an interesting exchange when the person found out it was for a muslim holiday. She asked if anyone bought "those kind of stamps" as if they featured child molesters or something.
