April 19, 200520 yr Author comment_1769397 You're going to have to elaborate on that if you want people to take those words seriously.
April 19, 200520 yr comment_1770922 Buddy Holly - the original garage band kid who hit it big. He blended R&B, blues, country and rock sounds into his music. Jimi Hendrix - did things with a guitar that no one thought was possible. Made complexity look good. His riffs still sound out of this world. The Beach Boys - messengers for the world. They brought the beach life to people who listened to their music. A new culture was introduced to a generation of kids who might have never even known what you could do at the beach. The Ramones - ugly fucks who sang about the fucked up life teenagers had. Completely anti-social Americans who helped shape the punk scene before punk was punk. RunDMC - took rap to a level that lasted longer than the one the Sugarhill Gang had taken it. While not as socially conscious as the groups that preceded or came after them, they brought out the bling and spoke to people who had dreams about getting their bling and showing it off for everyone to see. They helped put Addidas on the map and spoke to a generation of fans who wanted to grow up and become successful while looking good too. Nirvana - were *the* garage band graduates that hit a cord with a generation of disenfranchised youths who thought about homicide, suicide, and genocide but never following up on it. All they wanted to hear was someone who they felt would understand them and the problems they felt they faced at home, at school, at work, and in life in general. They influenced at entire generation of wannabe bands and record labels who wanted to find the next "average joe band" who could strike common ground with the 13 to 26 year-old age that the industry covets. Madonna - was the original ditzy slut who was smarter than people gave her credit for. She whored it up and did her best to shock people. Was one of the original shock queens in music who broke whatever rules there were left in the "good taste" of music. She hit the scene in her early 20's and girls 10 years younger than her wanted to make it big just like she did. At the time, Madonna appeared "real" in the next-door-slut-who-will-let-you-and-your-friends-gangbang-her type of way that got the guys socks off and made girls realize sex is their tool for getting whatever they want out of guys. Honorable mention for massive musical influence goes to the Beatles, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly, Elvis Presley, Grandmaster Flash, MC5, Kraftwerk, Bob Marley and Black Sabbath.
April 19, 200520 yr Author comment_1772103 I'll elaborate on your points afte rI finish making Nik his comp but you are obviously leaving the Beatles off for reasons known only to the insane.
April 20, 200520 yr comment_1786701 I can't help but wonder why Pink Floyd is not on this list. I imagine because they declined to do an interview with RS 30 years ago. Or something similar.
