November 9, 20186 yr comment_5871103 I get his frustration though. It's not an exact parallel, but it would be like if there was a large portion of UK fans saying Hulk Hogan wasn't a Hall of Famer because he sucked in the ring and WCW died because of him (I'd argue he was more of a direct cause of that than anything Daddy can be blamed for). All while ignoring what a massive cultural icon he was.
November 9, 20186 yr comment_5871107 Daddy is nowhere near Hogan's league as a worker. It's as big of a gap between Bret Hart and Mantaur, strictly in terms of between-the-bells work.
November 9, 20186 yr comment_5871109 Still, from what I can gather as an American it appears that Daddy was as big other there as Hogan was here in the 80s. I get the sense that a lot of people are trying to downplay or ignore that because it wasn't something they were a part of growing up. There's also a sense of "why don't you understand how important this was to us culturally?" coming from the other side as well.
November 10, 20186 yr comment_5871112 Hogan was a hero to most, but he never meant shit to me you see. Straight up racist that sucker was simple and plain, mother fuck him and Ultimo Dragon. Vote Daddy and let him take his rightful place in the hallowed hall alongside K-Dawg and Shitshow Nakamura
December 14, 20186 yr comment_5873077 Seven(!) new inductees according to Dave. There's a good chance the lucha logjam finally broke.
December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873604 HOF issue supposed to drop any time now. Dave mentioned on the Monday WON show he only had 4 HOF bios done at that point, so he's probably working like mad to make sure it gets out today since he has a thing about the WON coming out on Wednesdays.
December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873610 L.A. Park, Jerry Jarrett, Jimmy Hart, Bill Apter, Howard Finkel, Gary Hart and Yuji Nagata are all in. So not a real fix for the Lucha logjam. 5 non wrestlers was unexpected
December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873619 Dave's still doing the "non-wrestlers count towards the 60% threshold for 'their' category" meaning Gary Hart and Bill Apter were in the same category as CM Punk and Randy Orton.
December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873622 I'm shocked, but not displeased, that Omega did not get in. Not that I don't think he's worthy - I have no opinion on that - but rather that inducting someone smack in the middle of his career is absurd.
December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873632 Not that I have enough knowledge to weigh in about everything in the HOF but... Nagata over Akiyama???

It's best to wait until wrestler's career is done or if they have such a compelling body of work you have no choice but to put them in (example John Cena). Got me wondering how those Nakamura voters view him now?
December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873637 A couple of things jumped out at me looking at the numbers. One, there were more votes in the Mexico category than the Japan one, which almost never happens. Two, LA Park's absolute vote total nearly doubled from last year. This leads me to believe that a bunch of voters submitted ballots for Mexico just to vote for Park.

December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873641 It was Nagata's numbers with current wrestlers, who apparently voted for him almost unanimously, that put him over the top. That's the only group of voters he's done HOF-level numbers with, and he's only done so the past two years. Maybe it was his run in the 2017 G1 that did it for them.
December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873642 Thought it was amusing that when someone hipped LA Park that he'd been elected on Twitter and he had no idea what it was.
December 20, 20186 yr comment_5873643 Park has no time to think about Halls of Fame when he's busy being awesome all over North America. Also I never thought Jerry Jarrett would get in since all the old timers are still bitter that he was a shitty payoff guy, then Dave mentioned there were far less older voters and far more newer voters and it all made sense.

The payoff thing was more Gulas and then the 90s when revenue was way down. They wouldn't have had such a fantastic roster in the 70s and especially early 80s if the money was so bad, people would have found other places to work.
December 21, 20186 yr comment_5873647 Was that not the excuse given as to why he never made it in before? It seems like every time it was mentioned the answer was a variation of "old timers won't vote for him because he probably stiffed them on pay at one point".
December 21, 20186 yr comment_5873648 Meltzer mentioned that the taint of TNA took a while to shake off
December 21, 20186 yr comment_5873652 Dave mentioned in Jimmy Hart's HOF bio that he was making as little as $250 a week when he was carrying the territory. So it's not like it was total fiction.

What's interesting to me is that he was the #1 pick in the Former Wrestlers category, which would seem to suggest his standing with them isn't as bad as was thought. It was Current Wrestlers where he struggled, which indicates to me he was punished by keeping himself off of TV so much during the glory days and not having a bigger presence in the industry in the last 15 years.
