And in that scenario, I feel that for Wembley, that 6 man tag should have legit stakes (final encounter in a gimmick match) and not just the novelty of Punk coming back. I could be wrong though, like I said, I'm lost on how much impact that novelty has.

Under normal circumstances, I would agree with you. However, supposedly Kenny and The Bucks are perfectly happy working trios matches…and with that scenario there is less chance of Punk getting injured…again. They could do what Cornette and Brian Last suggested and run Kenny and Don Callis vs. Punk and Ace Steel.

April 12, 20232 yr comment_6002640 My guess is that TK checked with Gedo and New Japan to see if the Wembley show clashed with the last day of the G-1 (I know last year it ended almost 2 weeks before the end of August). If Danielson works the G-1 and gets a W over the champ he could also challenge for the belt at All In, which would feel pretty big too in the case Okada is not available.

Okada will likely be too banged-up at that point for a showcase singles match (as will Danielson if he works the tournament). I agree that Punk is available, he and FTR should work a trios match-just not against the Elite. That's a matchup that could sell a PPV by itself if built up properly, so save that for later when they might need it more.

I think they have more to gain by promoting that at the stadium, specially when it comes to building a foreign fanbase.

Him announcing it now puts a lot of time between now and then, along with Punk being ready to come back. There really is no other match you can put on top that will draw that house. MJF is gonna do a big title defense two weeks later, so you just need something to pass the time. Again, if you can do the 6-man and Nigel/Bryan, that draws a huge fucking crowd. Everything else is just gravy at that point.

I would even find the 6 man disappointing because that would mean that Omega and Punk don't have individual matches on the show. It must be a better card than any they have done in the PPVs since the start of AEW.

WWE has McIntyre (for now), Balor and Sheamus to represent the UK, but I'm struggling to come up with an active English star in wrestling right now. Only names I've got are Saraya, Pac, Zack Sabre, Pete Dunne, Big F'n Joe or Marty Scurll (RIP). That could give Nigel a lot of shine on that show if he does have a match.

It's kind of BS really; I highly doubt Punk has told him that his comments about his return are in bad faith, his intention is to be unprofessional "under the guise of being professional" and that in reality, he wants the Elite to leave AEW. All of this is pure speculation on his part. I would have thought he'd have learnt his lesson from the last time he spoke about Punk - and then spent an entire WOR episode apologising for it.

I saw an extended clip of that. What a bizarre theory from Meltzer. Punk doesn’t really want to come back because his potential return has been leaked…and if he really did want to come back it would be a surprise, therefore this is all some sort of Machiavellian plan by Punk to screw with the EVPs? I think even Meltzer’s biggest defenders would have to admit he has made some glaring and in some cases bizarre mistakes during his handling of this entire story, right from the start.

Last thing discussed was both Tony and Danielson talking about it in interviews in the context of the Revolution match against MFJ, both saying it would be difficult to let him do it if Danielson was AEW champion. Bryan did say that if he got Tony's permissions he would like to do it with other AEW wrestlers (Claudio, Mox and Eddie) so they could have a fun tour.
