Posted April 22, 200520 yr comment_1808128 My co-workers and I are pitching in $10 a piece to get another co-worker a birthday present. Between the four of us, we have about $35-$40 to spend, and she's a huge margarita fan, so we're going to get her some good margarita mix and tequila, and if we have enough, maybe a gift card so she can get some fresh fruit to go in them as well. My question was this -- can someone recommend a good tequila brand within that price range, along with a good margarita mix? Speak up, drunkards. Just the smell of tequila makes me want to vomit because of a few ... interesting ... past experiences with it, so I don't have much expertise in this field.
April 24, 200520 yr comment_1843358 Tequila Reposado 1800 is pretty good. Also, maybe a small bottle of Patron? I know the shit is expensive as hell, but maybe they might have something at a Costco near you. I generally have issues with tequila as well due to some unpleasant experiences of my own. Has your co-worker ever had vodkaritas? Those are awesome, as is obvious, they're just margarita mix, ice, and vodka blended together. And I know lots and lots about vodka.
April 25, 200520 yr comment_1845340 For the price range you've got, you can probably pick up a bottle of Sauza Hornitos and some Finest Call margarita mix and come out pretty well. The Sauza's a good Reposado at a reasonable price. If you're looking elsewhere, though, make sure you stay with a Reposado or an Anejo - those are the higher grade tequilas (the Patron mentioned earlier in the thread is one of the more popular - and expensive - anejo tequilas out there). And just in case you're a Sammy Hagar fan, I'd stay away from the Cabo Wabo, which is just a little overpriced for the taste, from what I hear.
