I can't stomach sports radio, consider the options we have in Pittsburgh:

1. Mark Madden, need I say more? Loud, obnoxious, and bashes everything in a 100 mile radius.

2. Ellis Cannon, who's actually the most insightful sports guy we have, but he has to remind the listeners every five minutes how he has the best *insert latest sports topic* coverage you'll find on the radio.

3. Stan Savaran, he's probably the best sports radio host in town but he works for a Fox Sports affiliate that refuses to spend any money. Listening to his show is like watching Hulk Hogan when he was in the AWA. You know he can do monster business if his boss would ever push him to the top.

Well, the draft is the only NFL action that people care about until August, so it's a big deal. The NFL is the most popular sports league in the U.S., so the sports radio world has to focus on it. I understand not wanting to hear about it for 2 weeks straight, but what the Hell else is there to talk about in April, aside from the NBA playoffs (which are incredibly uninteresting at this point)?

Just saying.

I don't mind covering the draft, but it's become such a culture onto itself - a somewhat disturbing trend where people call into radio shows and exchange their seven minute analysis of their home team's first five picks - that it kind of becomes overwhelming, after a while.

Analysis is great, but the signal-to-noise ratio for the NFL Draft is hilariously low.

the draft is hardly being discussed at all in New York because neither the Giants or Jets have a first round pick. Fox Radio has been wall to wall draft the whole week. I love the NFL but I've always found it hard to get into the draft, especially now when my favorite team (Giants) doesn't have a first round pick

I'm a passive football fan at best, so my head is spinning that there's so much Football talk not three months after the Super Bowl was played. Granted it'll die down until mid-summer, but I hate how football overshadows sports that are actually happening right now.

Be glad you don't live in Canada. I barely listen to sports radio as it is, as the closest station is in Ottawa and doesn't come in very well in most places, but if it's anything like the 3 cable sports networks, it's still all about the NHL lockout. Less now than it was maybe a few months ago, but still, it's depressing to watch SportsCentre since they devote a good chunk of most of the shows to how they're not playing hockey right now.

At least the world championships should be a nice distraction for a while, but you know they'll still bring up the lockout about 20 times a game.

It just frustrates me, because I listen to MLB Live on the XM Radio. Sometimes (well, all the time) I get sick of Rob Dibble and Kevin Kennedy, and I want to see what others are saying about current events in baseball. I turn to ESPN Radio, and it's the draft. I turn to Fox Sports Radio, and they're talking draft. I turn to Sporting News Radio, and it's the draft.

I get home and turn on ESPN. Sportscenter, and they're talking draft. I flip to ESPN2, and it's Cold Pizza, and they're talking draft. I turn to ESPNews, and they're talking to nameless WR about the draft. I turn to ESPN Classic, and they're playing an NFL Films Production, for those who miss their precious football oh so much.

What Tim said. At least the NFL Draft is a discussion about a GOOD thing in sports, whereas the NHL Lockout is not. And the NFL Draft is at least a realistically popular topic, as fans do get into it, with predictions, mock drafts, etc. Up here, your average Joe really hasn't spoken about the lockout since the season was officially cancelled, in spite of it receiving more than its share of coverage.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you, because there's definitely other things going on that deserve airtime. I haven't paid much attention to this year's draft, generally because the Bills didn't have a first-round pick, unless I missed something completely.
