I have a business trip in California that starts the day of Summerslam.  After Extreme Rules, the battle royal announcement, and then the Big E false flags I thought I might actually have to stay spoiler free and catch the show from the hotel late that night.  Then Big E was eliminated (I'm not doing backflips about him in general, but it would've been a fresh and really fun match) the thinking turned to "Okay, Brock and Roman once gave me one of the best matches in company history and are never boring together."  Then Rollins won and now I've got no reason to stay spoiler free or go out of my way to catch the show that night.  The 2/3 falls 6 man around commercial breaks and endless women's 4 way should've been a giveaway, but business remains as per usual.  

Will catch up on yesterday's G1 tonight and then start EVOLVE or DDT's Peter Pan if there's time.

They are aware of the options they have, which is something. It just seems they want to finish this Seth/Brock feud at Summerslam before moving on to different things.

The first two hours were really good, though. Things went downhill with the 4-Way, and it did make me miss Nia a lot. The Women's Division as a whole has ZERO monster heels and that sucks.

I dunno, I feel like most people felt he was the best of a set of bad choices, particularly once Roman went down. The Mania payoff actually worked fine, I think, but once they saw how cold he was as champ, I'd have gotten the belt off him by late May to heat up a new heel.

Following up that awesome fucking promo after losing the tag titles, WWE is now advertising a "career altering" announcement by Bryan tonight.

 

I wonder if it's just comedy fuckery or he decided he wants to go to 205 Live or NXT (so he can do whatever the fuck he wants and not depend on Vince hands on booking).

 

I hope he doesn't announce he'll now be a "hardcore wrestler" or something

Maybe it's that there's a specific person he needs to beat? Going to challenge a legend for Summerslam?

It makes absolutely zero difference who the top face is when the top heels are Shane McMahon and Baron Corbin.

If last night was any indication, Corbin is not a top heel anymore. Lesnar is.

But then again, we said something similar not long ago and he went to main event for months and months. Who knows.

 

As for Shane, if he is used to propel KO as a top face, I'm all for it. He can be a good foil for the right people, and is more than willing to take horrible bumps. The tradeoff is that he's going to get his shitty punches in no matter what.

 

EDIT: Also, Wyatt seems to be a heel and he's 100% going to be in the top position sooner or later.

So, this time Extreme Rules is done. So this was the first trve Heyman show. So, I ask again : was this the shortest post-reboot honeymoon ever ? Because the honeymoon lasted exactly one show. 

How long is Daniel Bryan hooked with WWE anyway ? How long is his new contract ? It wasn't a 5 years thingy I believe.

I'd argue that if the worst we can say about a Heyman show is that one match went long, then we are good. Dude is pushing new talent and it has legit surprises. A grand total of two decisions weren't great, but still made sense within context.

Deranged Bryan vs a newly fired up babyface Owens could be a fun and heated long-term programme to carry them through the autumn and the first few months on Fox.

I kind of feel like the obvious match for Bryan at Summerslam either Roman or Kofi though.

Well, that's the concept of the honeymoon.   Like you pointed out, the more the thing change the thing stay the same. Maybe there isn't even a honeymoon after all this time around...

Alexa got mad on Twitter about the crowd shitting on their match last night. It's a real sign of kool-aid consumption when you lash out at the paying customers rather than the company that put you in that position.

(and yes I know she can't really rail at the company on social media, just pointing out it's not a good look to lash out at the crowd for not being eternally grateful they were subjected to a TWENTY FOUR MINUTE elimination match.)

A 24-minute elimination match by itself isn't the issue - if it was instead four singles matches, they'd be six minutes apiece - not exactly outrageous.

The problem was, the match wasn't structured in a very compelling way. 

The womens match was the only part of Raw I liked.. not seeing anything about the first two hours that were good, fresh, exciting, or anything like that. This was absolutely a same old shit show..

a weekly 2/3 falls match for commercials purposes
Drew McIntyre getting pinned clean by a lowcard cruiserweight in under 5 minutes
Joe/Balor goes 90 seconds - Joe actually wins but STILL gets his ass kicked afterwards
Bray Wyatt returns - doing exactly the same thing he did every single time he started a feud - but this time its cool cause he has a mask
A pointless 9 second squash of Mike Kanellis.
And a 10 man battle royal to set up a match we just saw.

And even there, Heyman stressed many times in interviews since his appointment that changes would take mind. But from what we've seen so far, we can't say that Heyman hasn't been up to the task. Yes, there are some people from the "old regime" getting pushed but there are a couple of guys like Cedric Alexander getting more visibility and I can't be against that.

I don't get this. Cedric is very talented, and had nearly nothing to do after he lost the Cruiserweight title. How is pushing him, making him go up against a strong heel and winning, a bad thing? Don't we want underutilized talent to be used more often, and be in the spotlight for once?

Look at Murphy: he was having bangers every week in 205 Live, and when he got moved up to SmackDown, we got excited with the possibilities. Scoring a win over Xavier Woods or Big E would be a joy, even if he were a "lowcard cruiserweight" before that.

For me, Cedric's the guy that completely turned me off from 205 live and I can't stand him. Most generic movez guy they have. But it's more to the point that it was Drew of all people getting beat and that quick. As people have referenced earlier in the thread, a guy who was talked about as being a WM headliner/sure thing champion, and supposedly was going to face the Undertaker but I guess not any more.

If he was beating a midcard or a tag guy, like Murphy beating Xavier Woods would be, then fine, but this to me just felt short sighted and stupid.

also think Murphy is 1000x better for the record.
