Promising news:

-- For those who have asked about Bobby Heenan, he makes his first public appearance in years this weekend at an autograph signing run by Turnbuckle Promotions and Jason Blaustein (yes, son of Barry Blaustein of Beyond the Mat fame). It's October 3rd and 4th in Oaks, PA at the Greater Philly Expo Center, 100 Station Avenue, Oaks, PA.

CM Punk: First world champion to lose the belt over a dress code violation. LOL

Yup.

According to Meltzer, Punk is in the doghouse again because during the last European Tour, people backstage felt that he was not "dressing like a champion should". Taker calmly took him aside and said to him backstage that he (Punk) is the champ and is the face of the company, so he should dress in public like a Champion should. Punk supposedly replied, "Ok, but what about John Cena?" It was overheard by many and it got back to the office and supposedly some people felt that Punk saying that was him saying he was as big of a star as Cena and not just a comment on clothing, and therefore was punished tonight to "put him in his place". And since Punk is not very popular backstage, the boys are happy about it.

I love Pro Wrestling, it's so stupid.

I had heard that CM Punk was forbidden by Vince from wearing civvies since "That's not CM Punk". When did that change?

Is there any reason why the Benoit vs Rad Radford match at the Stu Hart birthday show in '95 was relatively ignored in spite of being the only real WWF vs WCW match? At the time, nobody seemed to pay attention to the significance it it seemed like only a minor trivia note later.

Probably because Benoit wasn't that big of a deal in WCW at the time, and Rad was a zero in the WWF. :)

Mike Awesome v. Tazz was a WWF v. WCW match, in an ECW ring.

That's a good one, and a big one.

There probably are a few obscure ones out there.

But seriously, what a silly story, there has to be more too it.

An off the cuff remark gets blown out of proportion by jealous wrestlers protective of their spots and insecure about their abilities as they age. Sounds like typical pro wrestling to me!

This sounds like an overblown story. I doubt that Vince McMahon would devote all of the hours of TV that he has to Punk, in addition to using Jeff Hardy's last few months with the company as a way to get him over, and then bury him because he wears jeans and a Cubs hat on the road. I'm more prone to believe that they wanted a face champ on SmackDown because they have a heel champ on Raw and they have the Bragging Rights PPV coming up. Not to mention that the only other top heel on SD is Jericho, so they have no one else to push. Maybe this is one of those Vince humbling deals, but I'm sure Punk will be fine.

Listening to Dave's audio update, it sounds like The Undertaker was likely to win the title either way (though there were certainly people in WWE creative who were pushing for Punk to win, but they were losing an uphill battle), but that Punk lost in the manner he did (coming out before the Undertaker did, losing the title in the opening match) to send him a message that he wasn't that big a star. Really it's Vince's M.O. to placate the biggest stars in issues like this. That said, I agree that we shouldn't be crying any tears for Punk because WWE's dearth of fresh new stars, guarantees that any depush of Punk will only be momentary.

And then he falls down and its canceled

FWIW, Mike Johnson said that Taker-Punk was scheduled to go on last but Taker requested to move it to the opener because he wasn't sure he was capable of a PPV-quality main event in the shape he's in. Which, of course, makes Taker winning the title even sillier in retrospect, especially since there are more ready-made face challengers than heel challengers on SmackDown. Combine that with the fact that Batista's apparently Taker's next opponent and they haven't exactly pushed the idea of him as a heel yet...I need that Patrick Stewart facepalm picture right now.

As for Punk's supposed "burial", Punk got an awful lot of offense in on Sunday night for somebody who's being "buried".
